Herpes and menthol

Hello,
I am doing an experiment on myself by putting a "cold treatment" menthol vapour rub on certain areas of spots to see if the Menthol has any effect. I have used Peppermint oil but this has a marginal effect.
I have now got Shingles on my back and I am looking for a quick answer. I do realise there is no cure for this and I am really prone to attack by this virus.
Also I may try Ear Oil which contains 5% Hydrogen Peroxide.
I am also on Acyclovir tablets too.
Has anyone else tried any experiments which have worked to lessen Herpes attacks.

Ha! All this time later I think I have nailed it. Peppermint oil capsules. One a day but my attacks have seriously reduced. Almost nothing now. Colpermin gives you that Peppermint without the neat peppermint oil reflux that you can get with normal peppermint capsules. Not sure it's the holy grail but it certainly makes a big impact with me. :)

so you take your acyclovir 400mg 2x/day or just 800mg once a day?

your lower back rash is probably your genital herpes. it's an area it can reoccur in. shingles doesn't reoccur either.

don't rely on folks testimonies online, search for the actual studies done on pubmed. gov - saves you a lot of time  and money.  I know the menthol studies have already been done.  as I said, don't recall peppermint oil being one of the essential oils tested but there are a few studies out there with several in.  Chamomile oil was the most successful in those studies if I recall.

the bacteria in kraut are good for warding off flu viruses too :)

Hi,
I have genital herpes for sure and have been to the clinic for that. I have a low immunity so I am on about 800mg a day Aciclovir.
I have had two bouts of a rash on the lower region of my back and thought it was a kind of eczema. On the second bout it happened at a time of stress like the first. I thought at first it was due to the low humidity at home but now I am working and have a large window open all day so humidity is not such an issue; so "odds on" that it is not eczema.
I have a good idea that it is Shingles; not diagnosed yet.

There is a lot of posts and websites which relate Peppermint and Menthol to have a perceived effect on the Herpes virus. I have an idea that this could be true and I am trying to find out whether this could be a aid in my condition. Menthol is the active ingredient in Peppermint.

My infection or bout has now cleared up without any signs of the virus now. My stress situation has abated and so that could be the main reason for the improvement but I will continue this action if the condition returns.

Cheers Jerry

PS- I have tried to eat Sauerkraut to eliminate Stomach Virus and have had great success over many years with this so I'm looking for another Cookie remedy like this to help with my Herpes.

I'm confused. You have oral herpes, genital herpes and shingles going on?

menthol didn't have any increase in healing if I recall from a study done quite awhile back.

some of the essential oils have shown some promise in the test tube but don't recall peppermint oil being one of them tested.

How did they diagnose you as having shingles?    Are you taking acyclovir 800mg 5x/day for it?  Have you had shingles before?
