Herpes and pregnancy

I am due on Wednesday and when I woke up this morning I noticed a little bit of blood on my toilet paper. I checked my vag out in the mirror and noticed what looked like a cut (straight line) near the top part. I called my OB and went in for an appointment. The doctor looked at it and said it just looks like I cut or scratched myself. He performed an internal exam and then looked at my chart and realized that I am on Valtrex because I had an herpes outbreak about 5 years ago. The outbreak was type 1 and it was on my butt. He decided to go ahead and culture the sore/cut and said if it comes back positive for herpes I would need to have a csection and the results should be back either Wednesday or Thursday. My biggest worry is if I go into labor before then. I don't want to have an unnecessary csection but I also don't want to put my baby at risk. I called the lab doing the culture and they said the results aren't schedules to be back until Saturday. Does this sound like herpes to you? Thabjs

Do you think the results will be back for Saturday? Also, how long does Valtrex usually take to clear up an outbreak?

Hi, really cant say but most often herpes outbreaks in the same spot give or take an inch. Also genital hsv1 rarely reoccurs and  being on valtrex would certainly lower outbreaks even more.It would appear that your doctor is correct that its not herpes but without knowing for sure it would be best not to expose the baby during the birthing process. Im sure youll have the test results back before your time.
