Herpes medications

Can valtrex be used a suppressive treatment like every other day or every other month?In other words does it have to be taken every day?Are there cheaper alternative suppressive meds?Is the aciclovir cream sufficient to be used when u have an ob?Thanks in advance for advice.

If you choose Suppressive Therapy then it has to be taken every day,Aciclovir is a much cheaper option although from what I've read it is not absorbed as quickly as Valtrex and some of the more expensive Antivirals,I use Aciclovir and very very seldom have an outbreak ...... I personally don't use creams because I don't think they do anything to speed up healing and are very expensive,there is no substitute for basic good hygeine keeping the area as clean and dry as possible works for me,maybe because I'm lucky enough not to have ever had a Genital outbreak mine is lower back so quite easy to keep dry and covered during an outbreak  .....  
I'm a fan of Suppressive Therapy because I'd rather get used to taking a little pill twice a day than deal with outbreaks,it's each to their own though.
