Herpes on lower back

About 14 days ago i went to the doctor to check out some bumps on my lower back and lower right thigh. He said it was the herpes virus but did not clarify which type it was (1 or 2 or zoster). The bumps on my back were itchy and the ones on my thigh were sore. I have been in a relationship with a girl for the past year and several months and we have unprotected sex several times and i have never experienced any symptoms before. She has been my only sexual partner. She has never showed any signs of cold sores or anything in her life. I've had cold sores on my lips ever since i've been a kid.

My questions are:
1. Is it possible that my girlfriend has the herpes virus but has never had any outbreaks? And is it possible that i could have gotten it from the gym?

2. Even though i have had no signs on my genital area is it possible for her to get it from oral sex or umprotected sex?

Ok I will for sure get that test done and I will tell my girlfriend to get it done too. I am curious as what it could be now if it might not be herpes.

thanks for the help. very much appreciated.

that's a shame that no testing was done. your provider really dropped the ball on this :(

At this point, best you can do is both you and your gf make arrangements for type specific herpes igg blood tests this coming week to see who has what. You already know you will test + for hsv1 due to your cold sores you know you get.  If you test negative for hsv2 and so does your gf, then odds are that this isn't herpes going on.  the dual locations of your symptoms is also questionable. A 2nd opinion next week with a dermatologist would not be a bad idea especially if it's not getting any better by then.
