Herpes or HPV

Hi - Currently I have group of sores on upper lip. It is burning and paining and irritating. When started it felt like tingling. Now it is swollen

My dermatologist doctor diagnosed said it looks like Herpes or HPV, but as culture test is not available he said to wait for 3month blood test.

I am actually confused whether to put this question in HPV or Herpes forum as my doctor cannot able to confirm but he is sure it is either Herpes or HPV.

I know its silly to ask what my symptom look a like but can you please advise from I said what does it sound like(Herpes or HPV)?

I will post to clarify if Symptom grows more.

herpes and hpv don't look anything a like!  

I suggest seeing a different dermatologist for a 2nd opinion at this point.

Like suggested I saw different dermatologist, he after seeing and said it is Herpes labialis

He precribed
Zovirax
Acyclovir
Cefoprox
Zyrkoe


Sorry I am not sure I have spelled correctly, you know how doctor prescriptions are. I have taken this from his prescription. I am yet to buy these medicines.

Grace - Any suggestion on do's and dont's while having outbreak.

I mean any food to avoid things like that.. Please advice

sounds like they threw the book at you medicine wise. topical zovirax doesn't do a whole heck of a lot for cold sores, especially if symptoms have been there for several days. at this point even acyclovir orally isn't going to do a whole lot either.

no idea why they prescribed an antibiotic for you.

not sure what the last medication you listed is for.

Actually he prescribed Acyclovir cream/ointment and not capsule. Sorry I haven't said clearly.

Can you please let me know what is the efficient medicine/treatment for oral herpes outbreak?, I will check the same with my doctor. Doctor have ordered me so many tests like ESR, AEC, CBC, and two other tests which I cant remember.

I am having bad pain, swollen(roof of mouth and upper lip) and burning/tingling sensation. It is third day from outbreak.

I am not sure doctor is knowledged on this Herpes, if not I need to consult another doctor.

acyclovir and zovirax are the same exact thing.   I assumed since you listed them both that you were given oral acyclovir and also acyclovir cream.

a lesion culture of symptoms would've been most helpful at this point.

Since I had bad pain/burning and not able to swallow food, I went to same doctor but he was not there so emergency doctor attended me and provided 5days course of
- famciclovir
- Fudic cream

and also said Zovirax capsule and acyclovir cream prescribed by other doctor are not effective. He also said to use Sun block cream or moisturizing cream as it can reduce pain

Now I am confused as doctors prescribed different medicines and I don't know which one to take. Please advise on this.

Also let me know which medicines of above prescribed I can take during recurrent outbreaks.

famvir works the same as acyclovir does. all of them are of limited use after a few days into symptoms.   you can use any of the herpes antivirals for recurrences.



I can't really help you with your decision of who to believe and what medications to take.
