Herpes or Ingrown hair

Herpes or Ingrown hair

I am a woman who has had unprotected sex with a man who has herpes.  I have noticed occassional sores on my mouth/lips, which I've never had before.  I am fairly sure they are herpes blisters.  They don't last long, and they don't concern me.  I have also noticed an occasional bump on my vagina.  I had never noticed this before having sex with this infected partner.  I had also never trimmed my pubic hair before that time.  I am concerned that I could have contracted genital herpes, even though it's only been a few times that I had unprotected sex with this partner... and never when he had an outbreak.  I am aware that I can get it even if he isn't showing symptoms of the virus.  I had a blood test for herpes by my doctor that came back negative.  Since then, he and I have not had sex.  Yet I have another bump on my vagina.  I noticed it about 7-10 days ago, and it has not gone away.  It is one bump, and it feels sore to the touch.  I've never had more than one at a time.  I've had about 3 of these bumps over the last year, and when I've gotten one it lasts a couple weeks on average.  It doesn't ooze anything or spread.  I am concerned that it could be genital herpes, and the test could have been wrong.  What are the chances that this is an ingrown hair or that it is herpes?  This time the bump is near the clit, on the outside of the vagina on the top/middle.  In the past there was one on the side of the outter part of the vagina, close to the leg.  The other one was inside the vaginal area.  Should I go to a gynecologist the next time I have a bump to have someone visually see what this is?  What do you think it is?

You need to call today and go have this bump checked out.  it could be many things.

Have you and your partner discussed his going on daily suppressive therapy or is he on it already?

He is not on any suppression medication for herpes, and he doesn't plan to start taking it anytime soon.  Is the blood test for herpes reliable or is a physical exam of these bumps more accurate in diagnosing it?

An exam is best.
