Herpes outbreak that will not stop or is it something else?

Hello, i have had HSV2 for 5 years now and i was one of the lucky ones that used the anti-viral drugs and i never had outbreaks. Well in Feb 2012 i started having the following problems. My vagina would have swelling, white or yellow and sometimes yeast like discharge, an odor, itchy, burning and sometimes i would feel tingling. I have gone to the doctors many times during symptoms and they always say it looks like a yeast infection and not herpes. I have been tested for all STD's and BV and they all come back negative. They did a biopsy in May 2012 on the area where i have the majority of my tingling feelings for my HSV2 and that came back as HSV2. However, when the results came back the doctor thought this was crazy and still said it looks like a yeast infection. I have been given the pill that starts with a D for the yeast infection and the 3 day treatment medicine. When taking all of these i start to feel better but right when it looks like it is clearing up everything starts all over. I never have pain with any of these symptoms and i have never seen a blister. When this first started happening i would say the first 3 months it would clear up for like a week and then that would be it after about 3 months it never went away so from April to now Sep 2012 it has never gone away. My doctor has sent me to a BV specialist which i go to Oct 10. If anyone has experienced this with HSV 2 or have any ideas if this is something other than HSV 2 that would be a great help. Thanks

sounds like a lot more your gyn could be doing to try to figure out what is going on  :(

Thanks, I have not used any creams. I have another doc apt on Dec 3. I wonder if I have nerve damage. Would you think this could be a possibility? I have not had an ultrasound either.

no, herpes won't cause the non-stop itching.  it also won't cause random cramps.

you should be seen monthly if you still have symptoms. they can test you for yeast and bacterial infections each time.

have you tried something as simple as a barrier cream daily to your anal area - desitin, a&d, bag balm, aquaphor etc?

have they done any ultrasounds or anything at this point?

Wanted to give an update. I went to a specialist and i was proscribed Fluconazole 200mg. The swelling is still around not as bad but i am not getting a full on yeast infection and itch. However, i notice my anal area itches still and i am still irritated a lot. From your experience is it common to always be irritated, burning on the skin and itching even without an outbreak? Also, when a female has an OB from what i understand it can be in a form of cuts or blisters, correct? If i don’t have either and just swelling would you think this could be an OB? When i have gone to the doc and it is like this they always tell me that its not herpes. I also have cramps sometimes. Have you ever experienced that with herpes?

it cleared up but then came right back a few weeks later. I was in a cycle that was hard to break :(

I think I've been bv free for 4 years now or so.

O' gosh, so when you took the med it never cleared up? Also did you have any of the symptoms i had above? How long has it been since you have had this issue?

So when they tested you for BV did it show up? Every time they test me for BV it is negative. How long did it take before you got everything back under control after getting treated for BV and did it go away ever?

oh and you might want to try taking your valtrex 500mg twice a day instead of the once daily dose until you get to the bottom of this all. sometimes that helps keep it more controlled.

I had this same issue myself actually. I kept getting bv over and over again and it made my herpes go wild :(  We have research that shows that bv especially triggers hsv2 to be more active.

recurrences of herpes typically skip the blistering stage most times and go straight to the ulcerative stage.

I have been taking 1G of Valtrex but the generic.

Is it common for females who have HSV2 to start having other issues like this and will HSV cause something like this? Also, for outbreaks should they always heal up and when having an outbreak will that always involve blisters? I just don’t see a pattern here and I know with herpes there should be some sort of pattern and reoccurring outbreaks should not be so long. Also, if taking the suppressant medication will the virus build up a resistance to the medication? Also, is it common for the HSV2 to start reacting different over time? What I mean is for the last 5 years I never had issues and now this so is it because the virus changes over time in your body?

Thanks

hopefully the specialist can figure out what is going on and get that controlled so that your herpes can settle back down!!!

what antiviral are you taking - dose and how often?

no, this isn't a herpes issue. it wouldn't cause the discharge you are having though certainly your tingling and burning can be the virus being active. many infections in the genital area can trigger the virus to be active.

Yes they have, like i said i never have blisters just the triggers. My anal area itches and burns as well. But again i would have these symptoms from time to time but they would always go away before with the med and I would never have blisters. but now they are always around along with the swelling, discharge, itch and odor. Does it sound like this is all a HSV2 issue or something else going on and it is trigging those commons symptoms of the HSV2?

going to the specialist at this point is probably the best course of action. whatever is causing your discharge, seems to be triggering your hsv2 to reactivate too.

have they tested you for other std's and trich too?
