Herpes outbreaks about every 2 to 3 months

I get herpes outbreaks usually about every 2 to 3 months.  I have HSV2 also my wife who also has herpes gets them quite frequently.  I am wondering if there is anything wrong with us other than HSV2 because I read that most people dont have many outbreaks.  We have both been tested for HIV and don't know why else we would both have these outbreaks so often.  To me every 2 or 3 months is alot.  Am I wrong is this quite normal?  I tried valtrex but just don't feel like paying for it but it did seem to work is there any other treatment that works.

Thank you a response would be most appreciated.  Especially about both of us haveing outbreaks so frequently.

Vaginitis is usually the culprit in us gals for more ob's. Your wife shouldn't hesitate to see her provider for a work up if she starts getting back to back ob's again.

The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource. I recommend reading that - it's free to read online or to print out at home.

Do you use lube when you have sex?

Like I said - you two are both having completely normal ob patterns with herpes. No reason to suspect anything else is going on.

Wow I didn't know that that was average I always read these post on the net that say most people only have a few a lifetime.  I just thought it was strange that my Wife and I both have them so often.  I remember one time when I had like 3 outbreaks back to back within like 2 months and it freaked me out thats when I got tested for HIV.  Then about a 8 months ago the same exact thing happened to my wife.  3 outbreaks back to back.  This only happened once for both of us though.  It also seems like if I am haveing an outbreak and my wife and I have sex she will have one like a week or to later is that normal.  One more question is there any other std that could cause frequent outbreaks besides HIV.  We hav only been tested for hiv and herpes nothing else so I am wondering if there is another std related disease that causes fequent outbreaks.

THis will be last question just wanted your expertese.  Thank you so much.

actually recurrences every 2-3 months is completely average. Most folks have recurrences 4-6 times/year.

Why not give acyclovir a try - it's cheaper.
