Herpes results

by bblover, Dec 07, 2007 03:29PM
I was diagnosed with HSV2 using a swab, that was done on Nov 10.  I had a blood test on Sept 19 that came back with an IgG of 22.40 and IgM of 0.58.  I had never had a genital outbreak before the sore I got on Nov 9.  I had unprotected sex with someone on Aug 26.  Does anyone know how to understand these tests?  I have had cold sores for years and also had one on my lip at the same time as the genital one.  I do not know if this was a dormant virus or new expossure, do the blood tests mean anything?

What did your genital lesion look like in detail?

You had a non- type specific herpes blood test done. It really doesn't tell you anything other than that you have at least one type of herpes.

You know you have hsv2 genitally from the lesion culture.  You know you have hsv1 orally from your history of cold sores. No reason to repeat your herpes blood test at all.
