I agree, your doctor has no idea.

You more than likely have an oral HSV1 infection, 2/3 of the population does. You will have IgG antibodies for life, they will never 'clear'. Extremely few people need medication to control serious issues with the virus. A lot of people are like you, no idea it is actually there unless you tested!

You do not have genital herpes.

HSV1 testing can be a little less reliable than for HSV2.

You are negative for HSV2.

If what does not clear up? What symptoms are you having?

Yes I would, I'd only test again as part of a routine checkup or if you want to mutually test with a future partner.

The risk is zero for HIV, you do not even need to test.

The risk is basically also zero fro HSV as well, testing would only really be required if you had symptoms of concern genitally, that would mean lesions.

You haven't said anything about your exposure that gives rise to these concerns you have. What happened?

Great, OK, looks like an Immunoblot test. That's OK, but request an ELISA based test next time round.

You are a clear negative for HSV2. No reason to suspect this will change either by 16 weeks.

No reason at all to suspect herpes from that exposure. You haven't provided the full test details so we can't comment further on that.

Either way a 16 week test is required to be comfortable in the negative.
