Herpes tests and symptoms

I had protected intercourse and lip kissing for a sec.

In the doctors and expert(this) forums i have read that if no symptoms occurs in 14 days after the exposure then one can be certain that he/she didn't get herpes is that true?

I heard about PCR-DNA blood test for Herpes.

Is this PCR-DNA blood test a good test and how long after the exposure to get tested for conclusive test result?

If at all antibody combined herpes test at 3 months post exposure negative. Can I be certain?

I read your 28 posts to the MedHelp communities.  You need to stay away from the CSW's at this point.  You have a high fear of STD's and from where I stand if you keep doing things to cause fear you are going to be back in this spot.

HSV is not a blood bourne virus.  Since it isn't in the blood you will waste your time doing a PCR DNA test on blood.

The best test will still miss 1 out of 10 infections.  Majority of the people will test positive though by 3 months.  In your case if you have had no symptoms and negative test it is time to move on from herpes.  At this point you need to consider also getting out of the visiting CSW's business and wait for a partner to which you can confirm their STD status.

oral herpes isn't an issue for delivery. the link I posted gives info on how to protect a baby from hsv1 from people kissing the baby and sharing drinks/food with the baby.

Thanks for your comments. Will get tested for my partner.

We are planning to have a child after marriage but I am really worried for the effect of herpes on my child. I heard that herpes is very common in India. But still I dont find good info on herpes effect during newborn baby delivery and how its gonna affect my child.

I dont worry about me having HSV1 after what you have said in above thread but all I worried is about my partner and our child in the future.

I will go through the link you have provided.

Once again very much appreciated.

you really don't have any reason to think that your hsv1 isn't oral.

did you read the link I posted for you?  it's terrific information for you and your partner.

has your partner been tested to see if they have hsv1 also?  Oral herpes is incredibly common in india.

Treatment isn't really needed with coldsores.  They clear up on their own time.  Not much will help speed them up.  Just avoid kissing during an outbreak and perfomring oral sex.

2.  HSV-1 isn't life threatening.  The virus isn't a "friendly" virus.  It is a virus. But it isn't going to kill you.

Thanks for your replies. It calmed my nerves to some extent.

Two things
1) I stayed in boarding school during school days for 9 years. During that time I used to get cold sore kind of thing in lip joint. But never tested at that time

2) After my recent exposures, I use to get cold sores kind but nothing looked like Herpes pictures seen in internet. So I have showed the same to doctor and he said it didn't look like herpes.

But I got tested four months after exposure and the result I got is said in my above comment.

I don't have regular partner. I will be moving into monogamous relationship. Getting married soon.

I had seen people around me saying I got cold sores and probably they also have it and didnt realise it.

Anyways, my questions are
1) Treatment needed only if I have cold sores, isn't it?
2) Is this HSV-1 cause life threatening? Or move on like I didn't notice it as I have seen people saying it is like a friendly virus?

Thanks a lot!! Much appreciate your advise and comments.

http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm  has terrific information on oral herpes for more reading.

spots in the mouth are usually canker sores and not oral herpes. You can get canker sores and also have oral herpes too. they are 2 totally separate conditions.

do you have to treat your hsv1 infection? No you do not. you never have to treat herpes if you don't want to. since you aren't really having obvious cold sores, no reason to treat it a tthis time.

if you have a regular partner, they will also need tested to see what their status is.

Most likely your HSV-1 is oral.  You can take antivirials but for HSV-1 it won't do much.  Avoid kissing when you have a cold sore.  If you have a sore present talk to your doctor to see what they think.  The white spots aren't herpes like your doctor said.

Herpes is a skin condition.  Take precautions if you have a cold sore avoid kissing and performing oral sex.  Though i would say also if you get something genital don't be afraid to ask a doctor to look you over.  You don't know the site of infection just yet.

I had IGG blood test and it is positive for HSV1.

Positive threshold 1.2 and I got > 5.09

I still dont know sit of infection. I would assume it is oral as i do get white spots in mouth and nothing in genital area.

My doctor examined my mouth and said the symptoms i thought herpes are not. Probably I had mild symptoms.

Anyways now I had HSV1, how should I approach/receive/diagnose it.
Should i treat with antibiotic or leave it?
Is HSV1 dangerous or can I move on saying it is very common and it is friendly virus like common cold?

Please suggest me some places where I can learn more about HSV1.

Even though I am worried just going through your posts gives encouragement. However I can't hide from the fact I am going through emotions or downer movement.

the risk of herpes from a one time protected encounter is very low.

your regular provider can help you with herpes igg blood testing if you are interested in getting it.

Here in India we don't have STD kit/package testing. I don't find STD experts or there is STD clinics in India..

So I have to find different doctors and they dont have knowledge on all STDs to get treated thats why I am asking questions for different tests and stds..

I am sorry that I dont have option here and so I am posting question here..
