Herpes type 1 and 2

by bughappy79, Jan 18, 2008 04:25PM
I have herpes 2 in the genital area and meet someone who has herpes type 1 and he said he shows signs in the genital area as well.  My question is how is type one genital transmitted?  And how does it work with me having 2 and him having 1 can we give each other the different type?  Also if he has type on and is not having an outbreak can he still spread the herpes virus?

If you have hsv2 genitally and your partner has hsv1 genitally then it's your hsv2 that is the issue, not their hsv1.  They can still contract hsv2 genitally so you should talk about what precautions you want to take together to help reduce their chances of contracting hsv2 from you which would most likely result in an increase in genital ob's for them.  If your partner isn't sure if indeed he has hsv1 genitally then he should pursue type specific herpes igg blood testing to see what his status is or get his genital lesions cultured.
