Herpes vs Boil

Recently I went in for my annual exam and the dr noticed a bump on my labia minora. She asked ME what it was! At that time it was not painful except when rubbed, so I had no idea that it was even there. The next day, the bump developed a "white head" that was about 2-3mm in diameter. Still no pain. I soaked in a warm bath and a couple days later it "popped" and is now an open soar. Currently the only pain I have is when it is rubbed or I get urine in it. I have several concerns. 1) What is this? From the reaction of my doctor, I don't believe she is going to be any help in my diagnosis 2) How am I supposed to "keep it clean" when urine gets in it every time I use the bathroom? 3) I have been faithfully monogamous to my husband for 12 years (just before we met I was raped)... is it possible for an STD to show up 12 years later?

Thank you for responding. I am going to make an appt with a Gyn first thing Monday. I'm pretty certain that it's a staph infection from using my toilet paper to wipe my nose first, but my husband is convinced that I have cheated on him. Hopefully they can test for both of these from the left over abscess. Thanks again for your help.

sorry to hear that you had such an unhelpful experience with your doctor.  At this point I recommend seeing a different provider for a better work up.

Odds are you were never tested for herpes after your rape. I'd cover your bases and ask for a type specific herpes igg blood test just to err on the side of caution so that in the future you know if you need to even be thinking herpes or not when things show up in the genital area like this.

Urine flowing over things is ok. urine is clean. Just pat the area dry afterwards.
