Herpes without lesions? Or something else?

Hi all,

I am a 22 year old male.  About three weeks ago, I had protected intercourse with a girl whom I'd just met, so I do not know her sexual history.  About one week ago, I developed an itch around the base of my penis and scrotum.  As the week went on, the itch became more intense combined with a tingling and burning sensation.  I also started having some mild burning/discomfort while urinating.  However, there is no rash, no redness, no bumps/lesions on my penis or scrotum.  The skin looks perfectly normal.  Is it possible to have genital herpes without any lesions? Would lesions, if they were to appear, have appeared by now?  I looked at other possibilities and thought it may have been pubic crabs (though I found no sign of eggs/lice in my pubic hair), so I treated myself with anti-lice shampoo and washed all my clothing and linens just to be sure.  However, the itch/burn is still there.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've read on the doctor's forums, herpes does not cause itching or burning in the absence of lesions. Also, I don't think it's likely that you'd have burning urination if the sex was condom protected (because the virus would have no way of entering the urethra). It's also very likely that symptoms would have appeared by now.

Maybe one of the counselors can confirm these claims, as I'm not a frequent poster.

this is far more likely to be jock itch than it is to be herpes going on.

have you been seen by a provider at all yet and had any testing done?
