Herpeselect reliability at 10 weeks?

by AnxiousFretter, Mar 02, 2009 09:14PM
Hello,

A few months ago, I had unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex with a woman.  A week after sex, I had a pimple-like bump on my shaft.  It didn't hurt or itch, and I posted about it here (a doctor told me it didn't sound like herpes).  But, based on my readings that symptoms will show up 3-20 days after an encounter, I was very worried.  Please understand that the timing of this bump's appearance made me incredibly anxious.

I had 2 doctors tell me it didn't look particularly like herpes.  After a few days, it popped (like a pimple, with a small white ball of puss and a little more fluid).  36 hours after that happened, I had a culture taken, which came back negative.  Again, because of the fact that it appeared a week after sex, I was still worried that the culture might not have been reliable.

10 weeks after the encounter, I had a herpeselect test done, and it came back negative (<.91) for HSV1 and HSV2.

I am considering another herpeselect test, now that it's been almost 5 months since the encounter.  Can anyone comment on my situation?

I appreciate it very much.

You've had 2 providers who have actually seen this and didn't feel that it was herpes.  Not quite sure why you can't accept that?

If you really feel the need to retest you can do so now.
