Herpetic Stomatits and recurrences

I was just recently infected with Herpes Simplex 1, and my primary infection was Herpetic Stomatitis. I had no symptoms on the outside of my mouth, but many ulcers in my mouth, swollen gums, and also ulcers in my throat. What I was wondering is if I were to have a recurrence, is it most likely to be stomatitis again or would I be more likely to get blisters on my lip and such? Anybody that had the primary infection of stomatitis what are your recurrances like or anyone that knows could you please inform me?

Also, when I proposed that it may be herpes to my doctor, she prescribed me acyclivor. The symptoms dramatically decreased within 2 days, but that night while I was with friends, my friend took a sip of my drink without me knowing. I was just wondering if I had been on the medicine for 2 days and the ulcers had been clearing up, what are the chances that I could transmit it to her? This happened about 5 days ago so I can't say that I've seen any signs on her face or anything but it's killing me inside that I may have accidently given it to her. I'm afraid to tell her because if she doesn't end up having it I just made things kind of awkward by coming out of nowhere and telling her I have herpes and to watch out. Should I go ahead and tell her or just hope for the best that it never shows up?

The risk as an adult of contracting hsv from just sharing a drink is pretty darn low.  It's more likely to occur from romantic type kisses.  It's up to you if you think it's worth talking to your friend about this or not.

Did you have a lesion culture that said hsv1 orally or was it just a looksee? There are many things that can cause symptoms as you've described such as herpangina ( which isn't herpes related ), allergic reactions as well as many other viruses.  Did your doctor do an igg blood test to see if you already had hsv1 or not?

Usually only the initial infection of hsv orally is in the mouth and as extensive as you've described.  recurrences tend to just be 1 or 2 lesions and on or around the lip area.

Thanks Grace, that kind of eases my worries a little bit.

A culture was done and it said it was HSV 1. No blood test was done though to see if I had already had the virus, but it does run in my family as far as my father and siblings go. They, if any, have recurrances in the form of ulcers in their mouths I'm pretty sure.

My brother, 27, told me he's had them since he was a child and had frequent ones during college usually brought about by stress and topical ointment usually helped with his. I'm 20 and have never had any such problems until recently so I'm just assuming that I just recently got it.

I also had an issue with school a day or 2 after I saw noticable healing and had a huge anxiety attack. I went to bed that night extremely stressed out and when I woke up, two more blisters in my mouth had popped up, so I'm assuming that they are mostly stress related like my brother's. My 2 other questions would be:

1. Although I didn't get a test done, would it be possible I've had the virus for awhile and it just decided to spring up even though it was a pretty sever break out? I just assumed it was my primary infection due to the severity of the break out.

2. So even with this outbreak in my mouth, I am more like to have a recurrence on my lip and not a milder version of the ulcers in my mouth? I was just reading that it usually happens in the same location, I didn't know if that meant usually in the same location after the primary infection or as in the same location as the primary infection.

I'm kind of a hypochondriac and am new to this so I am just trying to be prepared for what might come. Since I feel like they are stress related, if I keep wondering what might happen will just stress me out more and make me more prone to break out.

It would be unusual for a recurrence to be in the mouth so presuming this is a newly acquired infection is probably a good guess.

Usually ulcers inside the mouth are canker sores and not oral herpes ( except for the initial herpes infection ).  You can have both.

Most adults have hsv1 orally. it's very common.  Only time will tell how oftenyou'll have recurrences.
