How can I really live happily with this uncurable disease

I been diagnosed with herpes for 2yrs now. I really dont know how im living. I haven't had any treatments my gyn. didnt give me any presciptions for it b/c I dont have any insurance or money to pay for it out of pocket. She made me feel I wasn't worth anything like I should give up and now I really do feel like it. She voiced her opinions on me about it just well " well I cannot do anything about it." She didnt even give me no birth control. Im 22 now I was diagnosed at 20. I got it from my ex boyfriend who also told me it was my fault. I never cheated or anything. He was my first boyfriend and my last. I have herpes type 2. I was just wondering if there was anyone I can talk to or anything.

How were you originally tested and diagnosed as having hsv2?

I advise you to find a new gyn. Planned parenthood is a good option if one is near you. They can help you with birth control options and they are lower cost.

You can get suppressive therapy with acyclovir for under $20/month with a prescription. Depending on your income, you might be eligible for free valtrex through gsk's bridges to access program.  http://www.gsk-access.com/programs.html  is a link to their various programs. You have to have a doctor enroll you I believe.

Definitely read the herpes handbook too that was already recommended.  Sounds like it's time to take your herpes under control instead of it controlling you!   Keep asking any questions you have!

To follow up with what katoicblue said...

Having HSV-2 is not your fault nor is it the end of the world.  You are 22 years old.  I am proud to tell you that this world has a lot of people with HSV-2 and you are not the only one.  This virus can control you or you can control it.  The question is who is going to do the controlling.

I would invite you as well to the herpes-coldsores.com site to also look over http://www.westoverheights.com/ .  They have amazing videos and lots of information as well.  Terri Warren also has written a book that you can get off her site and a handbook too.  The handbook is free the book you can buy off amazon.  Terri is also one of the Experts on the Herpes Expert forums here at MH along with the owner of Westover Heights Clinic.  She knows a thing or two about herpes.

Is this the end of your world?  No.  If your doctor didn't give you a perscription shame on the Doc.  There is generic version of Valtrex.  You can get that one pretty darn cheap.  So I think you should look into that option as well.  I am curious how were you diagnoised?  Were you blood tested or lesision culture or visual?  Did your Ex-Bf have it?  What was his reasoning for it being your own fault?

There are also some Herpes dating sites out there.  Yup you can date someone who has Herpes too.  There is people out there that will date you.  Any man worth his salt is going to date a person for who they are and love that person for who they are.  Not what they have or don't have.  Giving them the option to leave is one thing.  Those that do love you for you will be the ones that accept the pesky cowardly virus.

Ask questions here and feel free to get more information and please don't think this is the end of the world.

Like you, there are a lot of people, including myself, that do not have insurance to cover our medical bills or prescriptions that are too expensive. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis two years ago, though I had symptoms a year before that. I was covered under my parents insurance and when I turned above age, I was willing to pay for my own. However, since I was diagnosed with an incurable chronic disease, the insurance companies gave me an option, that I would have to choose within 60 days, of paying $700 a month, or to just work for a company that has a group plan. Well, the 60 days past and I was uncovered. The company I worked for didn't offer insurance for part time people, though I was still a full time student.

My medication costs $350 a month, which I have to take EVERYDAY regardless to help keep my symptoms of this disease from flaring up, or bleeding interanally for that matter.  Though, with herpes at least, the way I see it, you don't need medication anyway. Yes, your blisters will hurt and will cause discomfort, but why not try to let your body adapt to it over time? Our bodies are designed to fight off viruses into dormancy. But with medication, it is not allow our bodies to adapt. That's the positive you gotta think about this.

Right now, I am going through that worrying phase you might have went through when you were figuring out what you had. Though, I am  having symptoms inside of my mouth...which quite honestly are FREAKING me out. I have been actually diagnosed as being a hypocondriac as well as having a phobia of herpes in my medical profile. Though, with the situation I am facing, the symptoms started slow in dec, came back in jan, and all of feb have been on and off with sores inside of my mouth, mainly on the tip of the tongue and the sides of it. Right now, I just noticed red "ice pick" spots on my gums near my tongue....imagine what I am feeling right now lol.

So right now, I am in that uncertainty phase....but when I talk to my family, who thinks i'm crazy by the way (lol), they calm me down by telling me it is not that big a deal....that it is something that will come and go over time but is not going to kill me. Plus, my dad has oral hsv 1 and so he tries to kid around with me about trying to drink my drinks or taking my food lol.

I know I can't help with genital herpes, but it is just the same, just a different location. There are people I talk to all the time on www.herpes-coldsores.com who are happy and help others who are dealing with the same issue. You should get on there and become friends with everyone, they even have a chat room. =D

I hope I at least made you smile. Just give your body lots of time to adjust to this without medication; it will get better. The way I see it, people have been living with HSV 1 longer than HSV 2 without medication and so our bodies have evolved to where most of us who do get it it comes out rarely so I figure we gotta give our bodies time to get this one down too. =D HUG!!!!
