How is herpes zoster transmitted?

I am suffering from Herpes zoster. I have just had sex with my new boyfriend after abstaining for 7 months. I highly suspect I got this infection from him but he does not show any signs of this disease but he is very worried since he knows it is mostly people with HIV who suffer from it because of their low immunity. We both tested for HIV and our results are negative.

Please advise.
