How likely...??

My ex-boyfriend and I had uprotected sex for the first time in 3 months a few days ago when he came to visit from out of state. Today he calls and says he got his test results back and he was diagnosed with herpes.

2 questions:

1.) How long should I wait to go get tested; does it take a while for herpes to show up in my blood stream?

2.) How likely is it that I contracted herpes if he had no signs of an outbreak? I know thats its possible, but how much so...low chance, high chance, 30%, 90%...etc

1) They say 3-4 months you need to wait before getting a blood test because antibodies do not show up right away.

2) It's less likely to contract Herpes when he doesn't have a sore, however people with Herpes can be "shedding" the virus and not even know or see any visual signs.

You mentioned this unprotected sex was 3 months ago.. I would assume a lesion would have appeared by now, however.. sometimes it takes much longer so if you get a lesion.. go get it cultured ASAP.

Actually I recommend that you get a type specific herpes igg blood test now. Odds are that you've never had one before and getting tested now will show you what your status was prior to sex a few days ago. If your blood test is negative now, it's up to you if you think it's worth repeating it in a few months.

Did your ex bf mention what testing he had done and what type it said he has?
