How long after primary outbreak to wait before having sex with infected partner?
I had a primary genital and oral HSV 1 outbreak last week. I do not want to add to my viral load. Since it will take up to 3 months to acquire a good amount of antibody in my body, should I wait that long before having contact with my asymptomatic oral HSV 1 infected partner? He has been asymptomatic for years. Thanks.
Let me clarify - I was having a primary (never had before) oral herpes outbreak. I didn't know it. It came out about a day later. I was probably shedding a lot of virus at the time.
The reason I'm scared is that it's pretty certain that I infected myself genitally from my saliva after being infected orally. It was probably a matter of several days. I used my saliva to stimulate myself during sex. A few days after that, the symptoms appeared. There was not oral sex involved. I can't believe I infected myself!
you only have to wait until your lesions have healed. absolutely no reason to wait 3 months., you are already infected, you won't get it "worse".
