If you need peace of mind, repeat your herpes igg blood test 4 months after the encounter.

what if you tested 40+ days after  exposure.(1-time and she told me tht she was on valtrex and the experience was  less than  a minute but  she said it was at the end of her OB). and it came back negative(.19)  but  your doctor is telling you that you have  a uti.. although  I am experiencing  some tenderness in my penis and it was  burning slightly when I urinated, I have been perscribed cipro (500 mg) which is  helping but I have  had no other symptoms besides  a tingling in the  penis. the  doctor tested me for  a full std panel. and it  all came back  negative.  I am planing on testing again  but the  doctor said that  he thinks it is a uti. I have a pain in my left scrotum and occasional pain in my buttocks. ALthough I get  pain in my back that alternates near both of my kidney's.  The  doctor keeps telling me that it is a UTI but I am worried especially since Ih ave had  tenderness in my penis. it does not burn as bad when I urinate since I started the meds  but i am  still concerned.

On average symptoms occur within 2-20 days of being infected however most folks don't notice the symptoms.

If the uninfected partner was never tested before, I recommend he gets a type specific herpes igg blood test done now and then repeat it in 4 months.  Should he get any obvious genital symptoms before then, be seen and get a lesion culture and typing done.
