Hsv2 results conclusive?

Back in 2012 I started having GHSV symptoms. I had a postive HSV culture, but the culture was not typed. At 6 months after questionable exposure, I had herpeselect IGG test with the following result:
HSV1 positive
HSV2 negative

I continue to have occasional symptoms like yeast infection, which I never had before the questionable encounter. Maybe like one every 6 months or so. I will use OTC yeast treatments to treat. My question is are my 6 month post encounter HSV2 results conclusive? Or should I test again.

If the vaginal symptoms I'm having are truly only due to HSV1, apparently I've been infected for years (many years before this encounter) because I've been getting cold sores since I was a teenager.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I really have nothing to add to the figures and thoughts provided above.

Okay, will you give your thoughts on this? Initially I was thinking my 1st herpeselect igg test was 13 weeks post exposure, I checked my records and it was actually 15 weeks and a few days post exposure. How conclusive would you consider this? No antivirals were taken during that period. I didn't begin intermittently taking valtrex until week 19.

I can only say that it will be what it will be. No point guessing the answer or making plans beyond. It is hard like many things in life, but you need patience and distraction until the WB results are in then consider next steps.

Please tell me your honest opinion. I am so ready to put this behind me!!! In 2012 I never tested past 6 months post exposure (please re-read my story). I already had type 1 and I did not take the estimated 35 valltrex until after 4 months post exposure. I tested via igg at 13 weeks and again at 6 months, but did have the weirdly worded culture. Do you think I will test pos or neg via WB?

It is only a possible delay to IgG antibody production if taken in the first couple of weeks of infection and then probably only for some people for a short amount of time. Six months is no issue. Taking a WB now represents no issue.

** correction ** She DIDN'T say too much about it affecting my result.

Sorry. 1 more ques. I contacted Terri Warren today and scheduled a WB for next week. She did assure me that there is a low chance that I'm HSV2 positive, probably about 3% as you stated.  I'm just SO SO WORRIED. She just didn't sound as assuring as I'd hoped. I guess I'm just reading into every little thing and hanging on to people's every word grasping for hope. One thing I did forget mention in my earlier post that when I had the positive, my dr did prescribe Valtrex or vacalyovir (can't remember which). I took about 35 of those pills intermittently, she did say too much about it affecting my result. She still said she thinks there is about a 3% chance the negative hsv2 igg result Sept 2012 was false.
Can you please briefly scan my initial story & tell me your thoughts on this detail I forgot before?

HSV2 IgG testing is very accurate, less than 3% of infections are missed, probably a lot less. Ordinarily I'd say forget further testing, but there is just something about your situation that seems to warrant this additional investigation. Disproving a swab is very hard, but there are contamination issues in rare circumstances.

If you completely eliminate HSV2 as a possibility then your concerns are very low. You have HSV1 and it really doesn't matter about location.

Do you know of many cases where someone was negative via igg at 6 months post exposure and positive on WB? I thought herpeselect igg was even more accurate at detecting type 2 vs type 1.

Yes they are conclusive but not perfect.

Since you had vaginal sex, then really only HSV2 is feasible given the low transmission of HSV1 from someone's genitals and the fact that you seem to have oral HSV1 already.

Hence it is a bit unclear what is going on. A Westernblot may detect a HSV2 infection compared to IgG but that's only a small chance. It will of course confirm HSV1 but not location, dual or otherwise.

Do you think my igg results need confirming with a western blot or are they conclusive?

The accuracy of the test is 97-100%. You do not have HSV2 to a very high degree of certainty.

As you had vaginal sex and already have oral HSV1, the chances of a HSV1 infection are negligible.

Perhaps your could consider a Westernblot test for confirmation?

I'm really wondering about the swab test, it just doesn't seem conclusive.

I'd agree it is more likely that you contract oral and genital at the same time, but you'd know about it. Anyways it sounds like you were infected as a baby.

In addition to my above comment...I'm also worried that this could actually be hsv2, but wouldn't IGG test show positive for hsv2 by 6months post encounter? What's the accuracy percentage for hsv2 igg at 6 months? I would love to have closure and confirm my status. Please help.

I had a positive vaginal swab with results listed above at my gyno (he did not think this was necessary & assured me I only had a yeast infection). The swab was done 4 months after my possible exposure. The encounter consisted of a few strokes of penetration without condom, then about 5 mins tops of condom protected sex. I guess one scenario would be that I contracted ohsv1 and ghsv1 as a teen, but I never had vaginal symptoms...only a cold sore on my lip(very few and far between). This is all so confusing to me and I just need closure and to know for sure what I have and where. My life has not been the same since this encounter.

Where did they swab from? This does seem strange to me.

What was the encounter that happened and what were the symptoms and when did they emerge?

But I had a positive hsv swab culture via Labcorp.

The HSV2 test is conclusive, you do not have this virus.

HSV1 you have probably had orally since your youth. This means you are highly unlikely to be infected genitally with this type.

Hence your genital symptoms are most probably not due to herpes at all.
