I don't know what to think

I thought that I had a bad yeast infection.  Then I noticed some bumps down there.  I had been diagnosed with hpv a few months ago.  I went to a walk in clinic and the Dr. there A. did not do a urine sample, B. tried to do an exam with out lube on my lower area thus causing so much pain I screamed, C. did a culture but said well this is a text book case of type 2 herpes and just gave me a script for Valtrex, D. He didn't even prescribe antibiotics or anything in case it was something else.   He didn't even order blood work. Can it be that simple to diagnose just from looking or is this guy a quack.

Yes, it sounds as though your doctor wasn't practicing the best medicine. To slap a herpes diagnosis without ordering testing is wrong - a visual diagnosis is wrong 1/3 of the time. He/she should have done a swab/culture for herpes and tested for yeast. It's a shame they didn't.

HPV is completely unrelated to herpes, just to clarify, and won't cause herpes or herpetic symptoms, nor a yeast infection.

Do you have a regular sexual partner? Has he been tested for herpes? At this point, if you've started the Valtrex a swab/culture won't be accurate if in fact it is herpes. You could consider going to an urgent care tomorrow to test for yeast, or for herpes if in fact you didn't start the Valtrex.

The fact that the Monistat has helped does possibly indicate this is yeast. Monistat won't clear herpes.

Well now I (well we) are to the point of telling family.  My mom and aunt knows because they helped care for me, and his parents and younger sister know.  I don't think we are planning on telling anyone else but...how do I face his parents?  I have potentially infected their son...He is playing it off like it won't be a big deal but....I'm scared, if they start pointing fingers etc I'll prob break down and start crying again.  I'm feeling better emotionally but not that well.

symptoms can occur anywhere from 2-20 days after being infected so no it's not too early.

no, the detox system isn't a herpes cure. It's a waste of time and money.

both of you need testing to figure out what is going on and who has what.

Please help shed some light on this. Okay so I spoke to my partner today, he says he has signs of an outbreak.  Now that got me to thinking could it be that he gave it to me? We have been together for about a month but just had sex about a week ago.  From what I've researched online, that is to soon for a full on outbreak, right?  I offered him some of my valtrex cause the Dr. gave me extra plus several refills for any other outbreaks, he refused.  He has seen some ad online for a detox that "cures" herpes by allowing your body to expel the virus from your cells and then allowing your boosted immune system to kill it off.  I don't think it will work and I'm worried for him.  My positive test results and his outbreak have caused him to start drinking heavily.  When it was up in the air he was so sweet and what not... Now I have 2 pending cultures so there is still a chance I'm okay but still.

could your other infections have triggered your first obvious herpes recurrence? Yes it could which is why I recommended the igg blood testing for both you and your partner.

I assume they diagnosed you visually, again?? There is no test that is done in the ER that will give instant results for herpes.

UPDATE!!!
My symptoms got way worse and my mother finally took me to the E.R.. As it turns out I had a really bad U.T.I, they confirmed that it is herpes (I've shed my tears on it and now I'm ready to "move on" and live my life), a secondary infection and a large abscess on the inside of my vagina that *painfully ruptured while the Dr. was doing the pelvic exam.  So, it seems the antibiotics was a good thing.  They gave me a BIG shot of antibiotics, prescribed Doxycycline and Phenazopyridine to go with the other antibiotics and the Valtrex.
I asked the nurse and she didn't want to give me an "official" answer to this question, but maybe one of you lovely people might.  Is it possible that I could have had Herpes for a while with no signs and the U.T.I caused it to outbreak due to my immune system being down?
I hope my tale can be helpful to at least one person.  Have safe sex every time!!!!! Get tested often and ALWAYS make sure they test you for Herpes!  I found out to late that (for what ever reason) Herpes test's are not included with standard S.T.D. testing. I may have infected my partner and that pain is far worse (in my case anyway) than what I feel for myself.

there really was no reason for antibiotics to have been prescribed from what you've posted.  I think they prescribed that to shut up your aunt and at your expense :(  If you haven't started them yet, I wouldn't until you've been seen again for more testing if your symptoms aren't better by mid week.

A visual diagnosis of herpes is a good place to start for treatment and if you haven't heard from them by tuesday, give them a call and ask what your lesion culture results were. Did they also test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally while you were there too?

You and your partner both can seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing this coming week to see who has what. I encourage you both to do that regardless of what your lesion culture results are.  odds are that neither you nor your partner have ever had herpes igg blood testing done so both of you calling your providers to get that done is a good idea to see who has what.

is your valtrex dose 1gm 2x/day for 7-10 days?

hang in there - you'll have better answers soon hopefully :)

Your partner should most certainly be tested, as you are. You can't make educated decisions going forward without knowing who has what. And, if his tests are negative (and you've not had other partners since your last test), then you know it's not herpes. As to your testing every 6-12 months, be sure it included herpes testing. Most STD screenings do not.

Cipro is not meant for yeast or herpes, it's an antibiotic to treat  bacterial infections. I'm just not a big fan of throwing the kitchen sink at something, especially over-prescribed antibiotics.

Grace will have to comment on the valtrex/blood test possible conflict. However, if this is herpes and new infection, a blood test now will only tell you your status prior to this. It can take up to 3 months for it to be accurate due to antibodies forming (which is what it detects).

If you had a culture - that's good. It may take a week or so to come back - be sure they type it if positive (as in HSV1 or HSV2). That's also very important.

At this point you're going to have to wait for that, and then go from there with blood testing. But even then, it very well could just be a yeast infection.

As a side note, I'd suggest complaining to the clinic manager. Clearly you were not treated properly as to good bedside manner!

But, will taking the Valtrex affect the outcome of a blood test. I'm going to labcorp to have the test done. I have a wonderful partner who is being very supportive.  He said well if I had it and gave it to you, or you had it and gave it to me.....nothing we can do now.

I started the Valtrex when I got home, I am taking the second pill at midnight.  Also, my wonderful aunt called up and bitched them out and they prescribed (as an after thought) an antibiotic called Ciprofloxacin.  I've been tested every 6 -12 months starting from when I was first sexually active at 17. Never positive for herpes.  The HPV diagnosis came about 3 months ago.  They did a full screening then.   He did do a culture (stabbed my vagina and then embarrassed me by saying to the nurse, "Yep, text book clinical case of herpes, see look and just pointed at me!) I cried so hard that I passed out and they had to use smelling salts on me.  He then had the nerve to try and comfort me by saying, ""Don't feel bad about crying, every person I have diagnosed has cried, even full grown men."

These bumps are hardish like razor burn (which I've had in the past), It has been 3 days since I noticed the bumps and they have not ruptured or anything.  I've continued using Monistat and my symptoms have lessened.  Could HPV cause really bad yeast infections and that is what I'm dealing with?  I'm so lost, alone, and scared.  I need something to hold on to.
