I hope it's just HSV-1

So for the past week I've developed tiny needle size bumps/blisters on my top lip. It started with one, it disappeared when I rubbed off my Chapstick. Then a couple days later I developed two, slightly larger. I put on Chapstick at night, and I've noticed that the bumps are more noticeable in the morning. Well after four days I developed three more. Finally at day 7 I now have a bunch, but they are not clustered, they are all individual bumps/blisters. And every time I rub off the Chapstick, the bumps disappear, but it looks a little irritated and slightly swollen afterwards. I am kind of hoping its just HSV-1, because I know I have that, but I have never had symptoms like this!!! I am terrified that some how I got HSV-2! Because once the symptoms started I started to get a cold, I had a stuffed up nose, soar throat, and I took a couple days off of work, I felt better after three days. Now, another thing to mention is, the blisters do not hurt at all! It only feels irritated after I rub the Chapstick off, other then that, I feel no pain there!

I also want to note that I have an a-typical cold soar on my bottom lip, (where my cold sores usually show up) its a cut that hasn't healed in a week. It was never a blister, as my cold sores are never blisters.

Any ideas?

Well I am still developing more new bumps, it's up to more then twenty needle size bumps!! Maybe I'll run to an urgent care when I wake up tomorrow, see of they will swab the area if these bumps still look ugly.

Hi everyone -

Let's remember to be respectful, okay?

Just to clarify in case of errors in word choice or misunderstandings, cold sores and canker sores are different. Canker sores are in the inside of the mouth, and cold sores are on or around the mouth, sometimes nose.

All of our members on this site are volunteers, as was Grace.

The best way is to have the swabs down within 48 hours of it comes up.

Honestly, it baffles me that the bumps/blisters do not hurt at all!!! Like not one bit, it's not even irritating, it just doesn't look good. But there is no other explanation for these bumps. It's directly in the middle of my top lip, so it's not pimples, if I don't have Chapstick or lip gloss, my top lip feels tight and a little chapped but that's it.

Yeah I know I should get tested, hopefully soon. Should I just get a blood test, or still try to get the bumps swabbed?

Oh and the cold sore on my bottom lip is basically gone now, it's just pink colored skin now. So why the hell are these tiny bumps still here!!! Errrrrr!!! Sorry I am venting.

I never confused hpv with hsv. im not anyones replacement but a volunteer as are you. What false information did i give? I said that for all practical purposes canker sores are most likely hsv1 since estimated over 50% to 70% of the adult population are positive for hsv1.

Where is grace when you need her ( I know she's retired ) I haven't posted on this site in a while but i still browse from time to time . Life360, are you graces replacement or something? You need to read over your posts before you hit the big green button and give false information. In an earlier post you refered herpes as hpv. And in this post you say" and for all practical purposes canker sores are most likely hsv1" that is completely incorrect . Canker sores and NOT caused by any strain of the hsv virus . They are caused by anything from a cut in your mouth to poor oral hygiene . That is all.

Most people have hsv1 and for all practical purporses canker sores are most likely hsv1. Just get tested to confirm your status and stop the what if.s/

So maybe I am just freaking out for no reason. I mean maybe this is just HSV-1 going crazy since I had a cold at the same time, so my immune system was compromised. I mean I was tested a couple years ago and came back neg on HSV-2, and I haven't kissed or had oral sex with anyone. It's just I shared a drink with my brother who had a bad outbreak of canker sores (I know not herpes related) but it kind of freaked me out. He had about a dozen on the inside of his bottom lip.

The first out break is at point of contact and once it gets into the ganlia it can re out break anywhere in upper spinal region. When hsv 1 enters the body through nerves it travels to the top of the spine and hsv2 enters the nerves and travels to the bottom of the spine. There they hide from antibodies and may never come to the surface at all.

Lets say it is HSV-1, is it normal for it to appear on my bottom and top lip? I've never had more than one at a time, and I'm just freaking out because not only do I have more than one, but it seems like I have a dozen little ones all over my top lip. The weird thing is, they don't "fill up" until over night. In the day time I hardly even notice it!

Ok so are you advising that there is no use in getting the top lip swabbed, since its been a week?
I know I should have went the second I saw it, but honestly I didn't freak out until day 4 when it got worse.

Hi, hsv2 does not prefer the oral area but the genital area and is not common to get it oral. For all logical purposes sores should have the same appearence somewhat. And if they dont appear as hsv1, its most likely not hsv2,
But testing is the only way to know for sure. But you must have the culture within 48 hours after the sore on your lip appears.
