Thank you very much for the clarification & much appreciated .
I do not see the point of retesting. You may have an oral HSV1 infection from your youth. It is then virtually impossible to be reinfected in a different region. An oral infection is of no consequence. There is hence nothing additional that testing will help you with.
You may have outbreaks now and again, but this is unrelated to having a partner with oral HSV1.
The ulcer inside the mouth is most likely not herpes.
The lab with the strong positive result : HSV 1 IgG 106 U/ml negative less than 20 U/ml informed me that they are using IFA & it's more accurate than ELISA that maybe used by the other labs ,how true this statement ? & if I'm infected long time ago probably during childhood is it possible that I'm reinfected & I develop recurrences from now on ? Shall I retest at the 3 months mark ?
Testing for HSV1 can be inaccurate, 1 in 10 infections can be missed.
With a strong positive for at least one test then for the time being I would assume you have HSV1.
However if this is the case, you have had the infection for a long time most probably. You have not been recently infected.
How % chances I haven't contracted HSV 1 based on my last test in your opinion? Thanhs
The positive result was my second test only HSV 1 IgG at 6 weeks & my 1st test at 13 days after exposure was negative HSV 1&2 both IgM & IgG , is the last negative result a good indicator ? Shall I put my mind into ease till the 3 months mark as I'm planning to do a full STDs tests as well?
Confirmation would be at the 3 month mark but since 8 weeks would be a good indicator it should come back negative but the concern is your first test was a bit high.
My repeated test results : 49 days after exposure
HSV 1 IgM : 9 EU/ml negative up to 100 EU/ml
HSV 1 IgG : 3 EU/ml negative up to 20 EU/ml
HSV 2 IgM : 6.2 EU/ml negative up to 100 EU/ml
HSV 2 IgG : 1.6 EU/ml negative up to 20 EU/ml
Can I disregard the last positive result of HSV 1 IgG 106.6 U/ml Negative less than 19.9 U/ml?
If its a little bit high then could be a false positive so do retest to confirm
One last question please, the last reading was 5 folds plus the cutoff isn't it conclusive for positive cause you said it's a LITTLE BIT HIGH ! Thank you very much
I think that would be best.
So shall I repeat the test ?
So shall I repeat the test ?
Your first test was a bit high so i would lean more it is positive but up-ward of 65% of the adult population would also test positive for hsv1 oral as is quite common. Yes these test are quite reliable but do miss 10% of recent infection.
Thank you very much for the prompt response,
Do you think these test kits are reliable ? Considering my high risk do you think I still have a chance not contracting HSV ?
If you had one positive and one negative for hsv1 then retest.
Then shall I assume the results of 13 days after exposure : all serology negative as FALSE NEGATIVE ? Or shall I repeat the last positive test ?
Yes it was specifically for HSV 1 IgG 106 RU\ml after 6 weeks in other lab & 13 days after exposure it was HSV 1&2 both IgM & IgG negative in a different lab. I've never experienced any outbreaks or cold sores in my life
It does seem more likely than not that you already have HSV1, despite no living memory of cold sores. Most likely you acquired the virus in your youth. This is not uncommon at all.
Hence there appears to be no further risk of HSV1 infection. Avoid outbreaks and keep on with the kissing!
Important question... was the HSV IgG result of 106 Ru/mL result specifically for HSV1?
