I tested equivocaI: Is this an outbreak?

I got tested for HSV2 last May when my partner of 6 months confessed that he had herpes.   We had discussed STDs when we first started having sex and he never mentioned it.... he later said he was too scared to tell me.

Anyways, the test results came back "equivocal" and my doctor prescribed me acyclovir just in case.    Now, months later I think I may be having my first outbreak, but I can't tell.

Here is my confusion:     For the past week I have been taking an antibiotic called Biaxin (for a sinus infection) which I know can trigger yeast infections. I have had yeast infections before and some have been frightening and painful, but this feels a bit different....

There is no itchiness or discharge,  but I have some redness and some concentrated red sores. There is also some pinching feeling on the skin.  Does this sound like a herpes outbreak?   Should I start taking my acyclovir?     Can antibiotics trigger an outbreak?   Is it harmful or ineffective to take antibiotics and acyclovir at the same time?   Is it possible to be having a yeast infection and herpes at the same time?

any advice is appreciated.  Thanks!

equivocal is actually negative.  You shouldn't take any medications at all. if you think you are having a herpes ob - march yourself to the doctor today for a lesion culture and typing to confirm your herpes infection.  Also get tested for yeast and bacterial infections too.  Don't assume anything on  your own at home - go get properly tested and treated.

Darn shame your provider didn't know enough about the herpes tests to properly follow up on this with you :(

Hi there.  I would start taking the meds just in case.  You should get back to the doctor and let him culture the sores.  I hope it's just a yeast infection.  Good luck to you.  Grace will hopefully have some answers for you soon.  I'm too new to give much advice.
