I was wondering......

I recently started developing cold sores and have had flu like symptoms.  I've also had joint pain and lower abdominal pain.  I wanted to know if Herpes can cause pains in the joints when first infected.  I tested negative for hiv out to 12 weeks and have been told that I don't have hiv.  So, I was wondering if I might just have herpes considering I keep getting cold sores on my lips that come and go.  Can anyone answer.

cold sores are usually hsv1.

You wouldn't get oral herpes from receptive anal sex.

As a herpes sufferer myself, I can tell you for sure that joint pain and muscle pain is very common in recent infections. I had it mildly when first infected 10 mos ago, but now I'm concerned again because the joint pain is back even though I have not had an outbreak since catching HSV 1 and 2
