IGG tests

I know Dr Handsfeld always recommends the Herpeselect test for 1/2. Unfortunately my insurance does not cover Quest labs. I had a non-HerpeSelect IGG test done for type 1/2 through LabCorps (I believe)...both 1 and 2 came back negative. I'm hoping that I can trust these results even though the test was not HerpesSelect? It seems like the experts real qualm is with the IgM tests, so I'm hoping that since this is IGG and was negative for both types 1 and 2 that I can trust these results!

none of those symptoms sound like oral herpes either.  continue to follow up with your provider as needed.

A few other questions above, and reposting what's below from a separate thread I started--including here per yr request.

Sorry for a second inquiry on this same topic, but just freaking out a little bit...

Now have had the following for the past 2 days:
*What feels like a soreness on the roof of my mouth and a slight swollen area, but does not look like a 'sore' or a blister.
*Sore throat.
*A few red 'dots' on my inner cheek, irregularly shaped but some maybe 2mm in diameter...more red dots on back of my throat.
All of this is on the same side of the body.

I don't have a fever. No blisters or marks OUTSIDE of my mouth. Given all that, is this still unlikely to be an initial oral herpes outbreak? Would initial oral herpes ever look like red 'dots', or would they be clear blisters that fill with fluid and then eventually burst/heal?

I have GERD which is annoying in that it can cause sore throat, throat redness, etc, and I'm hoping it's the cause of these symptoms.

Some of the experts I read on here--Rockoff in dermatology, for instance--seemed to say that initial oral herpes would involve many sores and also bleeding gums! Other doctors seem to say that sores would be BOTH inside and outside of the mouth...Any help appreciated!

Actually more like that sort of testicular pain plus a sort of tenderness/odd feeling in lower left side...almost a gas pain, if that makes sense...

thanks Grace! went to term today and he checked out the oral symptoms & agrees they don't look anything like herpes.

one lingering 'symptom' is still this tenderness in left testicle...almost as if i pulled the testicle itself, if such a thing is possible...I ride a bike quite often so i'm thinking it could be from that...but is testicle soreness/tenderness a symptom of HSV, in the absence of any other symptoms? it's been going on for a day or two. And yes, had derm take a visual inspection 'down there' and all is clear...

nope, doesn't sound like a newly acquired oral herpes infection going on.

herpes won't cause tingling in that many areas either.

And while I have you Grace--and thanks for taking the time to answer on this forum!--I was wondering if you could give some input on another point...I am over my limit for the experts forum ;).

I have no strict reason to suspect herpes exposure and simply am a big hypochondriac, also a bit hypervigilant or genitally-fixated at times.

Recently what set me off was two things...Basically I am negative for both 1 and 2 HSV. I made out with someone and then got nervous about possible exposure (again, no real 'reason' for this.) I started self-inspecting quite a bit. I had a small sore throat, but I often get one due to acid reflux. On the roof of my mouth I had a red patch, about 1cm in diameter and irregularly shaped...felt like I burned my mouth. No blisters that I could see, just a red patch that hurt a bit. At the same time I had a bit of irritation on my left nostril--almost like a pimple or just raw skin--that has taken a few days to heal. Same side of my body as the red patch. From what I've read online from HHH and others, this doesn't quite sound like a possible 'initial oral herpes infection'...just wanted to get your thoughts on that...I'm guessing that an initial infection wouldn't present both inside the mouth AND on the nostrils simultaneously? And if in the mouth there'd be more than one 'red patch', i..e a bunch of blisters and sores?

And FINALLY (really finally), Ive been experiencing intermittent 'tingling' in both legs/feet, and even my arms and scalp. I know herpes can cause nerve stuff but from what I've read on the experts forum such a tingling wouldn't really point to herpes. I've also had a bit of intermittent throbbing in my testicles, first the left, then the right.

Again, I'm guessing hoping that all of this is just paranoia and hypervigilance, and not symptoms of HSV or anything.

And I will get retested regardless :).

There were some encounters that were more recent than 3 months but I plan to get retested accordingly.

Regardless, any idea at what stage that test reaches a level of 'pretty darn accurate'? I.e. is it in the 90%ish range after 2 months, etc...or impossible to guess?

Will get retested regardless of the answer ;).

labcorp offers the captia test which is a fine test. it has the same issues with false positives as the herpeselect does but since you are negative, that certainly is not an issue.

was your testing done at least 3 months after you last had had sex ?
