I Had concern that I may have been exposed to herpes at the very end of October. Since then I tested at 2 weeks, and again I just tested again at 10 weeks, and both hsv-1 and hsv-2 IGg results came back negative. However at the 10 week testing my Igm came back positive and the doctor recommended i get tested again in 4 weeks. My question is that he told me the IGm was high possibly to recent exposure. Is 10 weeks still considered recent?
Thanks
the igm test for herpes is a greatly flawed test. we don't recommend its use at all. Current CDC herpes testing guidelines also support this. your provider needs to update their herpes testing knowledge to better serve their patients. A + herpes igm result is pretty much meaningless to be honest.
it's not likely that you contracted hsv2 from the encounter you are concerned about but if you need peace of mind, repeat your herpes igg blood testing in 6 weeks.
