This forum is an un-mediated, patient-to-patient forum for questions and support regarding herpes issues such as: Herpes symptoms and treatments, causes, diagnosis, and herpes in men, tests, telling your spouse or partner.
A girl gave me Herpes on purpose last August 2008 . I did an IgG blood test through http://www.nonprofitstdtesting.org/ on December 2008 and It came back with the following results : HSV 1 & 2 Type specific anitbodies test : HSV 1 IGG : >5.00 H HSV 2 IGG : >1.70 H
So I called them and they said I have both types of herpes. I have no symptoms . 6 month (Saturday august 08 2009) later I gave my results to a friend to show to his doctor . The Doctor said as long he doesn have symptoms he 'doesnt have to worry about it' . His answer drove me crazy. So i went to another doctor who ordered for me a different type of test ==> the IgM blood test. saying that everybody have antibodies , but not all have the virus. So today august 12 2009, this doctor's office will call me and let me know about my results.
I have read all over the internet that If I have Positive results of antibodies for HSV 1 and 2 via IgG test, this means that I have the virus . I believe the doctor just want me to pay lots of money . I paid $150 (I got no health insurance).
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/248394 is a prior post by HHH that explains in detail why the herpes igm test shouldn't be drawn. Since this isn't a possible new infection for you, even if it was a better test than it is for herpes, it absolutely is not the right test choice for you!!!
Your hsv2 igg of 1.7 is a low positive and needs repeated. Since you don't have insurance and you know you have hsv1, you can save a few bucks and just get tested for hsv2. Call your local planned parenthood and see if they can offer you the hsv2 igg blood test at a reasonable price too. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Confusing-Igg-Test-Results/show/7711 is a prior post on low positive results.
