Igm positive and transmission

Hey doc, I tested positive for herpes virus through IMg test because I had all the symptoms but no blisters my question is if it came back Positive for hsv do actually have either type 1 or type 2 genital herpes. My symptoms and reasons for testing were as follows ,tingling groin, pins and needles in groin and generally all over from waste down also sore buttocks, headach, fussiness,tired all the time been going on since my encounter with sex trade worker in Vegas 3 months ago.I'm divorced and have kids that are with me. I had a weak moment in Vegas and made the biggest mistake in my life and terrified that I brought home a desease my kids could get we have unchlorinated water supply and I worry they could get it from sharing the same bathroom,bathtub etc. My doc said the IMg test is very reliable to see if I was recently infected with Hvs and that I have Hvs antibodys in my blood and that I was going through prudome symptoms

Hi Terri I'm back,I've been to desease specialist and he feels I should feel better and better as time goes on and I havnt had any blisters in boxer shorts area also I was a little confused on test I received it was in fact a igg herpes antibody test that was Possitive but they don't do type specific 1 or 2 only on pregnant females so I'm wondering if I can get one sent to me,do you do that kind of thing also for the past 8 months I've had acne looking bumps in different areas of my body ,legs,underarms,chest,stomach, I'm not overweight and never had this before in any way do you feel it's related to herpes or do I have a skin infection of some type. Thank you so much for listening and any help you could provide

You really don't need a western blot, what you need is a simple IgG test at this point.

Thank you for your response,my doc won't do igg test but sending me to speachalist and I'm hoping she will and no I never had a cold sore I was in excellent condition before encounter 4 months ago. Had Igm test about 6 weeks after exposure that came back Possitive I'm hoping the speciallist can do a western blot ,appointment on April 19 . I've also had very sensitive skin , numness in arms ,legs,buttocks and feet also prickly nerve sensations everywhere but especially in Groin and buttocks area will get back to you if other testing is possible. Also I've had no blisters up to this point. Thanks

What was your IgG result?  Your doctor is incorrect about the accuracy of the IgM test.  It is notorious for false positives and is also positive about a third of the time with recurrent disease.  Let me know about your IgG test results if you have any.  If you don't, then that is the test that you need to have to determine if you have herpes or not.  Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip?  If yes, then expect to be positive for HSV 1 infection - 2/3 of the population is positive for HSV 1.  

Also, even if you are infected, this will not be passed to your children through normal day -to- day living activities.
