Igm test for HVS 1 and 2

I blacked out one night at a friends house. When I woke up they told me something had happen. I got tested for all possible std's. The only thing that came back positive was my IGM Herpes I, II test (1.29).I did test neg for IGG. I didn't even choose to have sex that night. How possible is this a false negative test.

I had all test preformed 31days after possible exposure . HIV PCR test, which from my understanding was an early detection test. Same with the HSV igm test. Like I said everything came back negative besides the HSV igm test. I'm just really worried and I don't know what to do. Or what to look for. Are you guys saying that the igm could very well be a false positive? I really hope it is.

Thanks

not sure when you had all your testing done but since it appears that you had sex while under the influence, best to cover all your bases properly. You can get tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia 1 week post encounter, syphilis at 6 weeks and herpes and hiv at 3 months.  Those are the minimum times.

the herpes igm test is a greatly flawed test and we never recommend its use outside of research in adults.  Best to repeat your herpes igg blood test 3 months or so post encounter for more accurate results.

igm isnt reliable. an igg test after 3 months exposure will tell you your hsv status.
