I'm not sure what it is.

I'm trying to find out if I have herpes or what's going on.  I have little small pimples filled with clear fluid just below the head of my penis about 1" down around the sensitive skin in different locations each time the pimples comes back.  The pimples heal in about 10 - 14 days and more will come back in about 5 - 10 days later and the same process starts all over again.  I been going through this for the last 2 1/2 years and have been to many different Doctors here in South Korea.  I'm an American and it's hard sometime here getting the right treatment.  Here is a list of the cream and ointments I have been giving over the course of 2 1/2 years: Uracin Ointment 50g, Dermovate Ointment 10g and Acyclovir Cream 5g.  Most of the Doctors have told me I have Herpes, a few have told me I have something esle and everytime I go back to one of them, he keep telling me something different.  I have taken the STD test for herpes and the Doctors always tell me it's Neg not to worr, but they keep telling me I have herpes.  I have seen many pictures of herpes, I have never seen any pictures of the pimples I have around the penis.

scipio's overall message is terrific but his treatments aren't.

do you have a regular partner?  have they been tested yet?

so you had a + lesion culture and negative blood tests? did I get that right?  rereading your prior post on your test results I was confused.

the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource to learn more about herpes and how to treat it. it's free to read online.

the acyclovir ointment is a waste of time and money :(  it doesn't heal ob's up any sooner than a placebo.

No idea why you were given 16 days worth of famvir. At this point the oral antivirals aren't going to help much anyways.  It's been going on for at least 2 weeks now and is almost healed on its own.

did you talk to your provider about daily suppressive therapy to help prevent recurrences?

Today I got my results:  blood tests---neg  urine test---neg  skin biopsy---positive for herpes from what the Dr said.  He gave me more Vacrax oint (Acyclovir) 5g and 16 days worth of Famvics pills (Herpers virus).  If you know of any other treatment what will lessen the outbreaks, please let me know.

Thanks

The next time I have something like this, I will go to the Dr and have that done.  I just hope I'm at the right Dr here in Korea to have it done.

Thanks

I'm still willing to bet that you haven't been properly tested for herpes.  ask for a copy of your last test results to find out.

at this point they should be doing lesion cultures on your active symptoms.

acyclovir ointment isn't effective for genital herpes.  if this really is herpes going on, you should be on daily suppressive therapy for your recurrences.  Also topical steroids will make herpes reoccur more often too for most folks.

definitely you need a far more proper work up and treatments :(

I have had a few Dr that tested me and I'm sure one of them proformed the panel 7 test for STD.  I have been to the same Dermatologist like 3 times and he always tell me it's herpes with a smile on his face.  They all give me cream and one time I was given pills.  I have never had a patch test done.  That will be my next test.

Yes, I was get misdiagnosed I think, but whatever they give me it work for maybe 10-14 days or less.  The pimples vanish, but leaves scars and then maybe 10 or 14 days later, I get more maybe on the other side.

when you say you've been tested for herpes, what testing have they done?

your pattern of recurrences doesn't sound like herpes going on. following up with a dermatologist is the best you can do next to see if it's an allergy or something else going on.

i have been tested twice and always came back negative, but doctors always say they're 90% sure i have herpes. they diagnose more by looking at it than anything. it does sound like herpes but you usually get given tablets, not creams. creams are less effective.
herpes gets misdiagnosed a lot as it looks like many other things, or so i keep being told. they could be wrong but we're both in the same situation :(
