In Shock

I had a routine STD test done with my PCP, and my doctor gave me the following results:

HSV IgM AB Titer DETECTED  <1:10

HSV 2 IgG Herpeselect Type Specific AB 0.09

What does this mean? She told me that the IgM indicates recent exposure, yet I just do not see how this is even possible. I had chicken pox as a child, but all of my sexual partners have tested negative for this virus. Should I have another test done? Should I be worried? I know you have addressed this topic before, but I just need to know your interpretation of my results specifically. Thank you for your time

As slacker said - the igm test is useless and can't be used to diagnose herpes in adults.  If you search for herpes, igm testing here on medhelp you'll find a zillion posts by Dr HHH on that topic.

Your hsv2 result is negative.  You weren't tested for hsv1 from what you've posted.

IGM Tests are totally useless. Go get a IGG done. I wouldn't in this day and age say your partners all tested negative unless you were with them for a long periof of time and you being the only partner and allowing enough time for the test results to detect herpes. In other words, it's a **** shoot whether you get this disease or not if you put yourself at risk of getting it. Should you be worried? Nope. IGM is probably wrong.
