This forum is an un-mediated, patient-to-patient forum for questions and support regarding herpes issues such as: Herpes symptoms and treatments, causes, diagnosis, and herpes in men, tests, telling your spouse or partner.
The HerpesSelect test will return a numeric value. A value below .90 means negative, .90-1.10 is equivocal, and > 1.10 is positive for HSV (1 or 2) with this test.
Can anyone explain this numeric value? Does it measure the number of antibodies found in the blood? If so, then I'd think that anything above zero should be positive. I don't understand what it's measuring. How can ".90" of something indicate no disease and ".91" of the same thing indicate a disease? Furthermore, what is the meaning of a high number? Is a result of 1.68 different from a result of 1.2? If so, how? If not, then why are there different numbers?
