I acquired HSV 1 genitally on 4/1 (a bit more than 3 months ago). At that time, I had a genital outbreak about 14 days after infection that was confirmed with a culture. I did not have appear to have an oral outbreak (cold sores) at that time. There were possibly some canker sores that resolved themselves within a day.
Now more than 3 months later, I have what looks like a canker sore but I am not sure if its intraoral herpes. There is one ulcer (white/yellow inside with a surrounding red halo) that is about oval shaped about a cm below the gum line. It is a bit painful when touched but otherwise not. It has been there for about 2 days now. I believe I had another canker sore 1-2 days before this "sore" appeared but that canker sore was on the inside of the bottom lip and went away within the day/overnight.
Is this possibly intraoral herpes? My reading seems to indicate that recurrent episodes of herpes are typically external. Would this be a recurrent episode with prior asymptomatic occurrences or would this be a primary occurrence? As mentioned, on was infected with HSV 1 about 3 months ago. I kissed someone a couple of weeks ago but he does not believe he has oral herpes. I'm thinking my genital herpes should have also precluded me from acquiring oral herpes from him 2 weeks ago even if he did have oral HSV 1. Is that correct?
Primarily, all of these questions is stemmed from the fact that a toddler ate some porridge off a spoon that I was using to eat the porridge. So now I'm freaked out that I may have intraoral herpes and may have spread it to the toddler. Since being confirmed as having genital herpes (HSV 1), I have been a bit of a stress-case about spreading this to the people in my life, especially children. So any help you can provide would be so much appreciated.
I would also add that the reason why I am concerned that I may have acquired oral herpes too at the time of the infection of the genital herpes is because I also kissed that person then. He has had a cold sore on his lip and had given me oral sex. That is why I acquired genital herpes. I also gave him a peck on the lips.
