Is constant burning in penis the symptom of herpes? Please help.

Hi, I am 36 yrs old guy and made a biggest mistake of my life, when I was drunk. I received unprotected oral sex from a stripper like 11 days ago and 3 days later I felt burning while urinating and constant burning in my penis all the time. I went to the doctor and he tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea (both came Negative) and gave me 7 day course of Ciprofloxacin.
But constant burning is still there but I did not have any symptoms of bumps, sores near my genital area. Not sure whats going on, but I am very much worried.
Is constant penis burning is the symptom of herpes? What is the time window for herpes symptoms to show up? Can I go get tested for herpes this early?Any idea, If its not herpes what could it be?

I am planning to schedule an appointment with urologist soon, so any idea what else I need to be tested for?

Thanks for your help

I have the same issue - got unprotected oral almost 3 weeks ago. Yesterday (Day 16) my urethra started burning, more after urination than during. Often times feel like it's burning and I have to pee when sitting down, not as much when I'm up moving around. I have zero other symptoms other than freaking the **** out that I might lose my family over a drunk mistake. It's causing me sleepless nights. Please someone help me. Please please.

I have had similar issue. Been taking Tamsulosin (Floxmax) for past 7 months and it's helping a lot. Was negative for both HSV1 and HSV2. But I've slept with some women (safe sex) since last tested. I just don't feel like testing more than once a year.

Was the cause of these symptoms identified? I'm experiencing the same

Hello, I'm having same symptom. Uroflowmetry shows some issue. But all other tests came out okay. I'm going back to urologist in couple of days. Can you please share what was the root cause for this in your case? Thanks in advance.

you can have either type in either location. when oral sex is the contact in question, it's hsv1 genitally that is the issue, not hsv2.

no way to know if you only test + for hsv1 on the blood tests if your hsv1 is oral or genital. you need a lesion culture of active symptoms to diagnose hsv1 genitally accurately.

really, far more causes of urethritis than herpes. don't get stuck in the rut of thinking this HAS to be herpes going on.

Thanks grace for the reply.
Actually my urologist told me its prostatitis based on symptoms and manual exam of prostate. I was not sure receiving oral sex would cause this; So I discussed with my PCP, and according to him if prostate is infected or enlarged the PSA levels would go up, that's why he tested me for PSA.

So I was going thru internet posts and most of them says either its herpetic urethritis or HSV1 genitally or prostate related. Since I am on medication for prostatitis and the symptoms are still there, so I am worried about the other two.

Have you ever heard either Herpetic Urethritis or HSV1 genitally causes only burning pain without any external symptoms?

Another question is - at 12 weeks mark should I be tested for both HSV1 & HSV2 or only the HSV2 is enough? My PCP says HSV1 is above and HSV2 is below the waist; since I have the symptoms below the waist, he says HSV2 is enough.

Thanks again for your help.

typically we don't recommend checking psa levels to diagnose prostatitis. usually it's diagnosed based on symptoms alone and/or manual exam of prostate.

could this be herpes? it's doubtful.  Just the urinary pain issues with no obvious  lesions isn't typical at all. Also your symptoms lasting a month point even more towards something else going on.

At this point being treated with a different course of antibiotics is preferable but follow up on this with your urologist as needed.

no reason to take any acyclovir. even if this is herpes, at this point it's almost completely run its course and acyclovir isn't going to do much anyways.

Its been a month since my encounter, I still have burning while urination and constant burning in my penis; Sometimes I feel discomfort/pain in my scrotum and little itchiness in my genital area. I did not see any bumps, lesions, sores in my genital area till now.

I went to the urologist 9 days ago; he put me on Cipro for couple more weeks, thinking it could be prostatitis; but when my PCP tested for PSA levels, it came out normal. So I feel this is not prostatitis related and inclining towards to Herpes after going thru some posts over the internet. My PCP says if its herpes then I should have genital symptoms by now.

So not sure whats going on, I have couple questions related to herpes.
Questions.

1. Could it be Herpetic Urethritis? Can it cause constant burning/discomfort this long without any external symptoms?
2. Could it be gential HSV 1? Can it occur without any obvious external symptoms and causing only burning while urination and constant burning in penis?
3. Can I take acyclovir for couple days to see if this burning goes away, if its herpes? Does it affect the IgG tests at 12 weeks mark?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The WB test is a confirmatory test.  It isn't something you should take right off the bat. If you do choose that you have to wait 4 months.  No less.

IgG tests are like all test and some times it has a false positive.  In this case we advise the WB.  But not the WB because you should the first time. Get the IgG test first.  If you get a positive number on it let us know the results and grace may or may not advise the WB.

Thank you very much for the feedback!
I was going thru some of the posts on this forum and I see false positive with IgG test and they re-tested with WB. So should I go with IgG test or the WB test at 12 week mark. Which one is accurate?

Also some of the posts says they have tested at 12 week mark, then they waited for couple months and re-tested , So did they start using any anti-viral medication after 12 week mark and went for the re-test?

You need to see your provider this could be anything.  You would see signs of Herpes 2-20 days after the encounter.

You can't be tested for herpes just yet.  You have to wait 3 months before gettin an accurate HSV igg test.  The IGM test is worthless do not test using that test no matter what your doctor say.
