Is it Genital Herpes?

Back in Feb I was stupid and had unprotected sex with a 28 year old white male with no history of drug use. two weeks later I had swelling, redness, and soreness of the vagina. I went to my doctor where she ran many tests all of which came back negative. She didn't run a herpes test because she said since I didn't have any lesions it wasn't herpes. last month I found out that myboyfriend (started dating in Feb after the encounter) was diagnoses with genital herpes (hsv1) and had his first outbreak last month. I feel as though I am to blame for this even though I was not diagnosed.
Last week I broke out with the same redness and soreness. This time it only lasted a few days (5) and wasn't as red and swollen as last time. Again there were no lesions. Does this sound like it could be hsv1? And also, if I have this, could I also have hiv from this one encounter? He didn't finish inside me but it was red and I was sore after. Any help/advice is appreciated as I am scared and alone. Luckily my boyfriend is right here with me the entire way.

no, this doesn't sound like hpv going on either.

I've been reading up and it seems liek it's possible HPV can cause the type of pain and irritation I'm experiencing. Do you know about any of that?

no, herpes won't cause pain like that.

Thank you so much for your help and listening. I'm not sure what I have, but it's gone away so I can only guess that since this is the second time this has happened in this manor (an outbreak lasting 3-4 weeks) that it would be herpes. I am continuing to stay on the new detergent I'm using, just in case. My eyes seem better, but now I have a horrible pain in my lower left abdomen that I had to go to the doctors for. My PC thinks it could be an ovarian cyst. Does herpes cause this pain at all?

well continue to follow up every time you are seen to try to get to the bottom of this.

A dermatologist might be helpful too.

Yes, I went back. Everything came back negative. The overall redness has gone down, still a little sore in that one spot, but getting better.  I don't get it.

did you go back to be tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally again yet?

I don't understand how it is going undiagnosed. EVERYTHING I read online says you CAN have outbreaks without lesions. I have two red bumps, tiny, but to me, they are not normally there. My whole vagina is just red and swollen. It'll get better, then get worse. I'm switching to hypo allergenic detergent just in case that will help. Today seems to be one of the better days. It's been about three weeks now and I'm so ready to just feel normal again. I am so tired all the time and I don't know if it's from everything I have going on, or stress.

What are your symptoms and how have you gone undiagnosed for so long as well?

Do you get discharge with the swelling, redness and pain?

I am another undiagnosed soul, but I have been having some major blurring in my eyes ever since my exposure. I also initially thought it was from crying so much but now it gets blurry from time to time for no apparent reason. I also get some headaches with that. I had some eye issues for some time though, which repeated trips to different doctors did not resolve but there definitely is a new component to my troubles.

By the way, totally feel your pain here. The needing to know part is something I've been struggling with for the last 5 months. Never thought it would be that hard to diagnose a genital issue but apparently it takes loads of work and figuring out to determine the root cause. Well, good luck!

Do get the Igg test done if you haven't already done so at least 4 months post exposure (I would try even at 6 if still negative at 4) and  go from there.

Yeah, logic and symptoms and testing and results, all send your head in a spin doesn't it?  I did actually get some eye trouble at the start and got an optician to take a look at the back of my eye and explained my concern.  She said there was nothing wrong and no damage at all and was probably just irritation from something unrelated (probably all the crying).  It hasn't happened since so it's not a concern for me.  (just to confirm with you, I haven't had a diagnosis yet, but like you I think it's herpes due to horrible symptoms starting after 2 weeks of new partner etc)  Have you had a type specific IGG blood test done yet out of interest.  Personally I believe th more tests you get, the pieces to the puzzle you can put together.  I really feel for you.  I know how horrible this is :(

honestly, at this point I would just like to know. The unknown is killing me. I had the same type of outbreak in Feb. which was two weeks after a possible exposure. I feel like she didn't look around and invesitgate as much as I was, so maybe she missed them. The biggest concern right now is my eyes and the swelling inside. Is this something that you have experienced?

Being the my boyfriend has been diagnosed, it seems logical that this is what it is.

I feel for you.  It is horrible when you finally get to go to the doc and then they don't even take a swab.  Argh.  Just keep making a bother of yourself and turn up every time and demand one!  Good luck and keep us up to date with things. I hope it turns out not to be herpes.  Glad you are feeling better.

I went back to my doctor and she didn't even test me for herpes, she said she didn't see any lesions to culture. I don't believe it, as I have one spot that is more red and a few bumps, but not lesion bumps or fluid filled looking bumps. Anyway, these are clearing up and I'm feeling better, however I have my period right now and I noticed I feel swollen on the inside, using a tampon was not as easy to put in and take out. Has anyone else experienced this? is it normal?

Also, my eyes are still the same, still a little gunky (more than normal). Is this in any way related to herpes?

you're right, I'm just convinced this is herpes even without a visible lesion based on the timing of the first reaction (2 weeks after possible exposure), and even though I'm red and irritation down there, this time isn't as bad as the initial, and there is a specific area that feels like is the 'culprit' area. Whenever I had yeast infections in the past it was an all around uncomfortable feeling, but no one spot seemed to hurt.

I've also never had pink eye, which is making me nervous as well. these put together are scary. I appreciate all of your input, when I can really only talk to my boyfriend about this, it helps to have someone els' s point of view.

pink eye is usually just a virus ( though it can be a bacterial infection too ) and not herpes.

really, the best thing you can do is to turn off the computer and keep yourself busy. the more you read online, the more you'll convince yourself this is more than it probably is.

If it is herpes, could that have cause the case of pink eye I have right now or is that unlikely?

Thank you for your patience with this and answering my questions. I'm so nervous that I have put myself at risk for Herpes and other STD's back in Feb that I could have broguht forward. I woke up this morning and one of my eyes is sore and much more gunky than normal. I'm not sure if this is related but I am so scared. My doctor isn't back in office until Tuesday. I'm driving myself crazy right now, searching the internet and just crying.

usually it's vaginitis going on though it can be irritation or even allergic reactions. being seen monday is the best thing you can do at this point.

We can tell you what it isn't.  What it is more difficult.  YOu need to be seen and work with your providers to investigate it.

What else could it be though if I have had all std and yeast testing? I know you don't want me to ask this but its in a very serious manner, does hiv present itself this way suring sero conversion without any fever? Is it possible? And its the second time in 6 months...nothing more, but certainly niot less

It's even the same areas that are bright red and the skin is thin. I'm scared it could be something else.

Yes but is it weird we would both have it genitally? Could this be a symptom of something else? There is no discharge, no smell. Its the same feeling I had back in feb and all my yeast and std tests came back normal but I can tell you this is more than irritation
