Is it Herpes?

Hello, i recently went to the OBGYN and got tested for herpes because i has 3 pimple like bumps on my vagina. I first thought i had a yeast infection because i had the itching, burning and excess discharge. I took medication to treat the yeast infection then i noticed i had these bumps that were kind of painful. I went to the doctor and they did a pap and took a sample of the blister like bump. They told me they will contact me if anything is abnormal or if i am positive for herpes. I never received a phone call, so i am confused does that mean i dont have herpes?

give them a call monday and follow up on this.  see if your lesion culture came back + or not. if it was negative, ask for follow up type specific herpes igg blood testing in a few months.

Yes i called and made an appointment and its this thursday the 17th. I was able to talk to a nurse and they said everything was fine thats why i never received a phone call. But i need to make sure! it worries me because i never had this issue before.Yes, i have the same partner for some time now.

your partner should get tested to see what their status is. if they had herpes and never knew it and recently transmitted it to you, you'll have sooner answers.

did they test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally when you were seen?

he was tested not that long ago and everything was fine. Yes, they did test me for infections and i did have one and i did have a UTI. I always get yeast/bacterial infections, can you get lesions from a really bad infection? is that possible?

yes you can get rashes along with bacterial infections.

your partner needs to double check to make sure he was properly tested for herpes too. Ask him to get a copy of his test results for you to look at. Then you can post the numeric results of them here for me to better help you.

Okay! i will ask him to go get check again. When i go to my appointment, should i ask to get the blood work done as well? Can they Check for herpes with blood testing?

I'd ask for the blood test for yourself to cover your bases in case this isn't a recently contracted infection.

well i had my follow up appointment today and i am very sad about the results. They told me that the Herpes Culture came back positive. I asked for a copy of my results and it doesnt have a numeric result. It just says what test it was and it has negative and positive.. The positive is circled! However, they didnt do a blood test. Do you think i should go to another doctor and get tested again??

A herpes culture will not have a numeric result - only a + or a - and most times if it's hsv1 or hsv2. Did they say if it's hsv1 or hsv2?

No they didnt and i was so upset that they never called me and told me that it was positive that i didnt even bother to ask. i just asked for a copy of the results, and it didnt say on there.

Well i went to another doctor and got my blood work done and they need another pap. yes he did and it was negative.

have you and your bf talked about what precautions to take from this point forward?

Hi Grace,

So i went to my original doctor and had all my testing done over. They did a blood test and a pap they took samples from that. did all the STD test HIV and Chlamydia as well as others. I got all my results back and they said that i was negative for herpes and negative for the others and that i was positive for Chlamydia. I am so confused is it a possibility that other clinic made a mistake?

PS. that other clinic never typed my culture.
