Is it genital herpes....

Hello, Dr's.

I have been reading a lot on these and other forums and am a bit perplexed.

Last Friday night, I had unprotected sex with a female.

When I awoke Monday morning, I noticed 2 red bumps on my upper left thigh (1 larger than the other), 3 small bumps in my pubic region (2 of which looked like zits with white heads), and some reddish/flesh colored bumps beginning to arise on the shaft of my penis.

When I mentioned this to the female, she told me that she was in fact HSV-2 positive but hadn't had an outbreak for over a year and is on Valtrex.  Further, she had apparently just gotten over a yeast infection.

On Tuesday, I felt pain in my groin lymph nodes and stomach.  I felt awful and tired.  I went to my PCP.  He did not give me an answer on his thoughts, other than it might be herpes, it might not be herpes based on visual inspection.  So he referred me to a dermatologist and prescribed me Valtrex.

The dermatologist did not think it to be herpes because there was no blistering.  No culture was done because apparently there wasn't anything to swab.  The spots on my thighs were still there, and the spots in my pubic region no longer had white tips, but were just red.  The spots on my shaft were barely visible.  I did not have any pain, very light itching (which may be psychological), no blistering, no scabbing.
The dermatologist prescribed a cream for scabies and tested me for STDs.

On Wednesday morning (after 1 Valtrex pill...prescribed 2 500 mg daily), the bumps were still there, still no blistering, scabbing, pain, or real itching.  But the shaft now had flaky, dry skin where I previously thought there was something coming up.  The dry skin seems to form a ring around what seemed to be an emerging bump that never came through.

On Thursday, I woke up feeling fine (no more aches or tiredness), but still with peculiar looking things "down there".

This has been the status since.  By Sunday, The red spots have all but faded....just a slight pink color....just fading bumps with no blistering or scabbing or pain....and dry skin on my shaft.

So it has now been exactly 1 week since I noticed symptoms 2.5 days after exposure.  I went back to my dermatologist and he did not think it to be herpes.  But gave me a prescription for Valtrex as suppressive therapy until I can take a reliable blood test in 2 and 3 months.

Obviously, I'm freaking out.  I know that everyone has different symptoms for genital herpes and I feel like I have some.

Thoughts?

I have nothing to add that I didn't already say to you on webmd's forum.

So I seem to have new symptoms.....

My entire body has been itching for the past month or so. My crotch especially.

6 weeks ago I had exposure.

2.5 days later I noticed red bumps in my genital area. 2 on my upper left thigh (a bit yellow on top), and a few in my pubic hair region (1 in the upper right area, 2 in the upper left area)....2 with white tips. No itching, no pain, no scabbing, no clustering, no oozing, no crusting.

The next day, I began to feel very fatigued, and I started having pains in my thighs, butt, and abdomen. This pain and fatigue went away within 3 days.

At this point, there was no itching and no pain associated with the bumps.

A week after noticing the spots, they went away.

After the spots went away, my body really started to itch. From my head, eyebrows, arms, crotch, anus, butt, legs, torso...you name it.

Now, 6 weeks later, I have noticed a couple of new pinpoint red bumps.....1 next to my belly button, 1 in between my belly button and pubic hair region, and another in my pubic hair region. These are very small and itch.

Also, my pelvic bone (between thighs and scrotum) is very red.

None of my lesions match anything I've seen online. My symptoms seem consistent with genital herpes, but the timelines and order seem odd.

ie....bumps appearing after 2.5 days of exposure. Fatigue symptoms after appearance of sores. Itching after lesions went away, not before or during. Bumps not appearing on genitalia, but rather on thighs and pubic hair regions. New bumps appearing in different locations than the initial.

How consistent is this with genital herpes? If not genital herpes, what is all of this consistent with?

I see my doc next week.

(btw, the spot on my scrotum hasn't changed, and looks to be a mole).

I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light.

A dr. answered this previously, but that thread is now closed.

Since then, I have noticed something else.

A couple of days ago (almost one month after exposure), I noticed a red bump that looks to be filled with white substance...not like a whitehead...on the left side of my scrotum.

I do itch a bit down there, but this bump has no pain associated with it.

So I've now had spots in my pubic hair region below my belly button, top of my left thigh, and now scrotum.  This along with the initial flu like symptoms (pain in legs, run down, pain in abdomen...as if I had done 500 situps) have me worried.

Is it typical for genital herpes to arise in multiple locations like this?

With the symptoms I've described, does this sound like a potential case for hsv-2?

I am waiting on blood testing, since I've read that it is likely too soon after exposure to have accurate results.

Thanks in advance.

you also paid to ask the std experts for their opinion and got one from them.  we typically don't comment when that is the case.
