Is it possible that I contracted herpes?

I’m 20 and I got a tonsillectomy a month ago because of recurring tonsillitis, but I developed a sore throat two weeks after that has not only not gone away, but has worsened and now I have a slight fever and I feel generally unwell. Strep test was negative. My doctor said it is likely a virus or she said it could be herpes.

My issue is, I have only been sexually active with 2 people, my boyfriend of 4 years and an ex I dated for a couple months. Let’s just say, for argument’s sake, I believe it when my current boyfriend says he has only ever been with me, and my ex said he had only been with one other girl, and this girl had never had sex before being with him. And let’s also say no one’s parents have herpes either. In theory, is it possible in any way that I could have contracted oral herpes and that’s what making me feel awful?

You do not have to have sex or oral intercourse to get herpes.  You could have eaten from a fork with somebody who had oral stomatitis which is a form of herpes or taking a drink after somebody... not all herpes are on the lips or face they can be inside of the mouth as well. On the roof and side of your mouth .. and on your tonsils . Google stomatitis caused by herpes

Most people get oral hsv1 as a child. I highly doubt hsv is causing a sore throat without other symptoms like throat lesions.
