Is this Herpes?

I am a 33 year old male and this year I had a herpes scare. While having sex with a girl, the condom broke. A few days later I noticed a red rash on my penis. I didn't hurt. No bumps or blisters --just a rash. I took a test for hp2 a week after the potential exposure, which came back negative. The rash went away and my doctor said it may of been some kind of fungal infection. Then, just to be sure, I took another a month later, and that also came back negative. That was in February/March.
I hadn't been with another woman for almost three months. Then in early August I had unprotected sex with a woman. Afterwards everything was fine. Two weeks after that initial encounter, I had protected condom sex with the same woman. The next day, I felt feverish and then in the following days I had muscle pains and aches and had swollen lymph nodes in my lower torso and the head of my (circumcised) penis swelled up like a balloon. There was no pain, but It really was swelled up. I have no leasons or sores, blisters or warts or any marks on my penis, but it has swelled up like a mushroom. Again, I am circumcised. The girl has no symptoms whatsoever and says she was tested for all stds including herpes just before meeting me and it all came back negative. Do you think I have herpes?  Is it possible that this is an outbreak from the earlier encounter(six months ago)?  What else could it be, if not Herpes? Thanks

The first experience and subsequent negative blood antibody test do not suggest herpes, although you tested too soon after the experience for the test to be reliable.  The swelling of the penis in the absence of any sores or blisters sounds unusual, for sure, but not really consistent with how we would normally see herpes.  The fact that this person has been tested for herpes is a very good thing, it helps to clarify things for you.  In addition, the chances of getting herpes at the one first encounter, for a brief time, is really low.  If you want to be extra certain about all of this, you could get another antibody test 4 months from the first contact.  But from my perspective, you are most likely just fine.
