Is this herpes????

Ok I am going to give a back ground story.... I have been seperated from my child's father for 6 months. We pretty much never used protection... Before we split up we both went to the health clinic and got tested for everything except herpes and syphllis. She said she would not test us because we had NO sypthoms, even though I asked her to. Any way, three months ago, I had unprotected sex with a coworker/friend. Then earlier this month I had sex with another long time friend after a club night. Then again last thursday. We used condoms both times. Well I started feeling irriated in my vaginal region and just thought it was because of the lube on the condom (mangum estasy) Then by Monday it was burning super bad when I went to the bathroom. So I called my doc to just send script for a UTI to the pharmacy.... she did... Bactrim. So I started taking them and it has gotten a lot better as far as peeing goes. I have been doing a lot of google.... Last night I noticed the lymph nodes in my groin are swollen and tender (which can be associated with UTI), then I noticed a very small bump on the outside of my vagina. I was messing with it alot last night and today it is slightly bigger. It does not hurt but it is very itchy. I called my friend and asked if he had anything thing and told him I was freaking out because I had a bump.... he said no he doesnt and that I could inspect him if I wanted.... he works offshore so he was supposed to send pictures but hasnt yet. I am literally freaking out and praying my heart out. I would just like any opinions on if it def sounds like herpes? Would the medicine clear up the burning sensation if it was herpes? Could it be a reaction to the chemical in condoms? Could it have been dormant in my body and something triggered it now? I feel terrible if he doesn't have it! I am planning on going to the ER tonight because I could get any appointment, but I almost dont want to find out. What precautions should I take with my daughter? I am scared that I can give it to her. Does Purell kill the virus on my hands?

It is possible - and common actually - to shed the virus when not showing symptoms.  Valtrex or its generic (which is a better absorbing version of Acyclovir or Zovirax) daily can suppress the viral shedding.  500 mg which is all my doc will prescribe for daily has a high success rate in blocking transmission and 1mg daily (which is what I want but can't seem to find a doc to prescribe) is documented as having a veryhigh success rate (99% of infected patients in a study did NOT transmit to their partner using 1mg daily valcyclovir).  I would suggest that daily suppression is a good way to go if your kidneys are in otherwise good health.  My long-term partner started on daily acyclovir about 10 years ago and has not had an outbreak since - except in the period when she failed to refill the prescription and had a few days break in medication.

Hello... So I never retested but now I dont have to. As of Sunday, I have a penny size cluster of blisters on my cunnie. This is actually the first time I KNOW that I am having an outbreak since the first one. It is very depressing. I feel it when I move the slightest bit. At least this time I can actually pee. I guess I just assumed I would never get "big" ones since the first outbreak was so small, if it wasn't tingling in the area I would have never known. My friend gave me a few of her Valtrex(blue pill with 393 on it) She gave me 6... 2 per day for three days... I started taking them yesterday morning.. It hasn't gotten better or worse which I am happy about the not getting worse part. I have all these thoughts... What triggered it? Why is it a big cluster? How did it get there so fast? Sunday morning I didnt feel a thing... Sunday night it was BOW there. Should I have been taking Lysine? Would it have helped prevent this outbreak? AHHHHH!!! Soooo through my blogging again... Is there a online community for people with Herpes 2.... I love this group but I find there are more "does this sound like herpes?" questions.... then just talking about the experiences.

at the very least, have the same testing you had done the first time repeated - or at least a hsv2 igg since enough time has passed now to get better answers.

false positives can be as high as 50% in certain areas so it's well worth confirming your status with the herpes WB.  This applies whether you are testing + for hsv1 or not.

Hey Grace... Ok remembering what I read... something along the lines of...  it is rare to have a false positive in people that test negative for HSV 1 and I do not have HSV 1.

No I have not retested. I said I was going to do so, but since I go to a low income clinic, I figured they would not retest me and I guess I dont want to get my hopes up since I read somewhere that false postives were rare. Well what about the fact that you can get it while no sympthoms are present? Thats what scares me. The shedding? And the fact that I did get this while using a condom and supposedly he had no symptoms.

did you ever retest to confirm your status?

the only thing you have to avoid with herpes is sexual contact when you have symptoms. Otherwise, do it all and have it all done to you :)

So at this time, its been about four months since I found out that I was HSV 2+... I have not had an outbreak since the first one.... I randomly get tingling, a strange feeling, or pain in my leg...  and do a thorough investigation to find nothing. It has been a difficult few months. I cant seem to let myself get close to anyone knowing that I have this..... Me and the guy started seriously dating for about a month. I felt like I had to just settle for him since he is the only one that knows, besides my best friend (who is actually his sister) and me and her dont talk about it much... We are still good friends but he's a man *****.. lol. During one of our intimiate moments.. he asked for oral..  I was like "hell no" then I started to think about the future with someone else... Can you even do "other" things with this lifetime friend? Its not a big deal. Im just having a hard time dealing with not knowing whats going on with my body...  Ive had no other outbreaks but I can still spread this... and that worries and scares me. Im sorry.... I am blogging now...lol. I dont get to talk much about this.

Yes I tested negative for everything except HSV 2 and she seen a little yeast. I read the yeast comes along with HSV. I rarely get a yeast infection. I don't even have HSV 1. I will def make my way to the doctor if/when I get another one. I'm very anxious about what's to happen. I've been trying to understand this "shedding" thing but I have a lot of time to figure it out, I guess. And I will retest in a few months.

at this point, you need to wait until at least 3 months after you last had sex and repeat your igg blood testing. if it's still a low positive, you will need to seek out additional testing to confirm your status. meanwhile should you get a return of symptoms, be seen within 48 hours of the appearance of lesions for a lesion culture and typing.

once your partner is able to seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing, they should do so to know their status too.  it's not routinely tested for in the military and odds are he's never been tested for herpes before this.

did you get all your other testing done too?

That was my antibodies only after like 3 weeks after expected exposure. Why would my antibodies be that greater than the .90 if I didnt have it? How common is a false positive? The test numbers kind of confuse me... I tried reading up on it but I almost become too consumed with it that its just overwelming.

I really believe he didnt know.... Hoping so at least but I do have a few friends that have it and only one of them has told their boyfriend.... I cant even see myself sleeping with someone and not telling them. Its the NOT knowing how my body is going to react to it. The doctor said it seemed as if my body reacted really well for my first outbreak. It's the wondering when Ill get another one and everything time I feel the tinglin or an itch I am like is this about to be another OB. The doctor also said I might not ever see it again but..... like you said my new best friend for life..... lol and smh.

Well I got my lab results in yesterday and I was positive for HSV 2... 1.23 was the number.... I was negative for the HSV 1. Well I just got off the phone with my guy friend and he is in complete denial. Now I am second guessing myself like has this been in my system and I just got a bad outbreak after having sex with him. How common is that? He said he is going to go get check to know for himself. I feel like if his comes back negative, Im really going to feel like crap. He said "I have never had a bump and I have never had a woman come tell me what you're telling me now" I didnt even know how to respond. He wasnt being an ******* about it. He just sounds really confused. So Grace do you think with the situation, this is something that could have BEEN in my system? I mean its right in the time frame with him.... like the 2-14 days you start seeing symptoms. If this was contracted recently would my antibodies had been that high? I usually see that they say it takes 12 weeks to show up.... Being that it showed up that soon, could I have been had it? The doctor didnt put me on any medicine she said she wants to see how my body reacts and that I might not ever get another outbreak. Even now I am feeling kind of tingly. Could be that its just on my mind.... What can I expect now?

going to the clinic is a good idea. you can get a baseline herpes igg blood test done now and then repeat it in a few months.   most low income clinics don't offer herpes igg blood testing though so be sure to ask. they can do an exam on you, do testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea and trich as well as for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too. it will be too  late at that point for a lesion culture of symptoms to be done.

Thank you for replying. The local charity hospital ER does do STD checks.... I did go last night but I left. I was there for two hours and they had not called one person to the back and I had at least 20 people ahead of me. I couldnt stay that long. This morning I notice that the bump is going down.... still has a little white head to it... still itches though. Lymph nodes are still tender and swollen but not as bad and still a little crampy in my legs.... I talked to my friend who has herpes and told her about the bump seems like its going away. She said her have always busted, scaps and then heals.... Is this usually how it happens... every time? Every body is different right. He didnt send the pics anyway. I will be going to a local clinic this week. If it does show up in a blood test.... It is most likely that it is something that has Been in my system? I was worried about my daughter because we use the same bathroom and I sleep in the nude... and she sleeps with me. I have been sleeping with clothes on since I seen the bump and sleeping with a seperate blanket. It makes me feel better that it cant be transferred to her.

looking at pictures of this  partner isn't going to give you any answers at all. Unless he has an active herpes lesion, you won't see anything.  since herpes is often transmitted when no obvious lesions are present, really no reason to waste time looking at pictures.

you need to be seen and get a proper exam. the ER is not a good place to do this at.  Crotches aren't something that they are the best at.

could this be herpes? yes it could be. could it be something else going on? yes it could be. we'd totally be guessing as to what is going on at this point.

no precautions to take with children. Genital herpes, if that is what this is, is a direct contact virus and we never have that sort of contact with our kids!!  Just plain old soap and water kills the virus. the regular hand washing you do after using the bathroom or touching yourself intimately is all you need to do.
