It is herpes, right?

I am a male, and had 5-min sex with a woman I recently met at the end of September 2015. Biggest mistake of my entire life.

In mid October, I started feeling a lot of pain in my penis, as if someone was pulling my urethra from inside.

I was diagnosed with NSU, I had a slightly red meatus, and was given antibiotics. The pain did not go away, I went back to the doc and I was diagnosed (confirmed) with a UTI.

I requested an HSV 1 & 2 IGG and IGM Herpeselect test at the 2 month mark. Both negative. (No numerical value on IGM, >0.9 on IGG)

The pain in the urethra continued despite many antibiotics.

I requested another HSV 1 & 2 IGG and IGM Elisa at the 6 month mark sharp.
HSV 1 IGG: Negative - Less than 2.0 UR/mL
HSV 1 IGM: Negative - 0.4 Ratio
HSV 2 IGG: Negative - 2.48 UR/mL
HSV 2 IGM: Negative - 0.16 Ratio

On April 4 I went back to the urologist, as the pain continued and he took a look at some images I had taken of some lesions and he said he was 85% sure that it is herpes. The lesion did break some days before (I could not call it a blister, but did have a clear fluid and eventually broke, letting some "water" out). It created some damage on the skin that made it very very slightly bleed. He looked at the lesion, and it looks pinkier than the rest of the skin, and just recently healed.

Can the serum exams be wrong? Could this be something else? I am on Valtrex now and waiting to complete treatment to see if it improves symptoms. I will do the IGG and IGM Elisa again (at 7 months). No chance of doing the UW Western Blot over here.

The lesion is not itchy now, it seems to have healed, the skin is coming off in another part of my scrotum, like in very small white-ish flakes. My penis still hurts a bit, but less than when I was not taking Valtrex.

Has anyone been photo-diagnosed with possible herpes and later found out it was not? Can Valtrex help with urethral herpes' pain? Has someone seroconverted more than six months later? Is it possible to have a six month prodrome and then just one blister/lesion? Will Valtrex affect blood tests? My uro says 10 days of Valtrex,  and then 15 days of no meds, then test IGG and IGM.

I am 90% sure this is herpes, but I am hoping to be wrong and the blood tests to be right.

You need to keep going and seeking alleviation of symptoms.

It is now not relevant whether this is herpes as noting can be done beyond the antivirals. These are usually very effective hence if they do not completely stop the symptoms then this is evidence this is not herpes.

You do not need anything further to discount herpes, that has been done.

What about kidney stones etc.?

That's the issue. The Valtrex has stopped nearly all symptoms in two days. No other med I tried in the past months did anything like this. Antiinflamatories, painkillers, antibiotics, herbal stuff, nothing worked. So that's why I am fearing this is herpes actually.
My uro looked for kidney stones. None. They said it was a "left over" pain from UTI and it'd go away. It didn't. They said it was all psychological, but not even relaxation helped. Only the Valtrex finally stopped almost entirely all symptoms. 6 months of pain, which no other med stopped, finally stopped after using Valtrex. I seriously doubt its anything else.
But the antibodies didn't show up in the blood work, so I will do another test at 7 months, but now I am worried the Valtrex might tamper with the results.

You have all the proof you need that this is not related to herpes. It is time to forget about herpes as a cause.

Your symptoms are not related to herpes:
- 6 months of urethral pain; herpes does not cause pain this long, usually only while a lesion is present.
- A single herpes lesion will not show up on the scrotum for someone recently infected
- valtrex; sounds a placebo impact

You need to get a proper diagnosis here.

I have been given various diagnosis/misdiagnosis.

Confirmed: urethrithis, and UTI (lab work)
Disconfirmed (?): prostatitis.
Yet to confirm: Spinal problem (although it sounds way off).

I do not think Valtrex was a placebo effect as I did try many other meds before this one, with no improvement, and I didnt know about this medicine before, so it'd be weird that the other ones didnt work as placebos, but this one did.

How can I get a proper diagnosis?  Swab? I cannot wait much more, this is driving me crazy. No option for Western Blot over here.

After 2 days of using Valtrex, my six-month pain has gone away almost entirely. I think this is already too suggestive of HSV despite blood work coming back negative.

Urethritis + 6-month daily urethral pain + watery "blister" on scrotum + tingling sensations + valtrex working to alleviate pain + "85% certainty it's herpes" from photo shown to uro...

I think all outdo two negative IGG and IGM tests at 2 and 6 months. I do not know what to do! I am going not going crazy, I know something's wrong in my body. I never had these kind of symptoms before.

You dont have herpes as your test shows and having open herpes sores inside your penis you would not be sitting typeing this you be at your doctors office with terrible pain. Its very painful inside the uretra.

I have felt better taking the Valtrex. The pain has diminished and you are right to say that at least it is not inside my urethra, as my uro made a physical diagnosis yesterday. But I am quite concerned about this sore/blister on the scrotum, which looks like many photos out there of possible herpes. I also know that most clinical diagnoses require lab confirmation, but I do not have open sores now and blood tests are negative. I am afraid that the Valtrex might tamper with the blood test.
I really appreciate your help! It is reassuring. :)

Hi getting a first time outbreak inside your urethra is not possible, only from a recurrent outbreak. First time outbreaks from a recent infection occurs at point of contact like your shaft or pubic mound area.

Hi Dave, thanks for answering. I am not really sure if this is herpes. My urologist shattered most of my hopes with that "85% sure it's herpes" comment. He's a top specialist in his field and he has been right about other stuff before. He said that I might have caught HSV long time ago and this is a recurrence, but previous tests in 2015 and now 2016 say I I didn't have antibodies before. Have you had problems like this with these virus of hell?
