Just found out im positive. Need help understanding my results... please!

hello any doctors out there im im desperate for advice.  18 days ago I put my self at risk. I gave brief oral and recieved oral sex. 2 days after I had a minor sore throat with White  stripes going down the back this went away in a few days never had a fever or anything else. 7 days after exposure I noticed slight irritation in the tip of my penis that's sti there. No blisters anywhere that I know of have popped up (yet). Anyways I had a blood test done 13 days after my exposure. The nurse just called and said I'm positive for hsv and my combined hsv level is at 2.0 I haven't had any real outbreak so I don't kwow if it's oral or genital. The nurse didnt know what stran she just said combined hsv is 2.0 and said it was from recent exposure... now I'm having tons of anxiety and am not really sure what to do or how to handle it. Is 13 days too soon for antibodies? She said it was from recent exposure how to they know that? Are my antibodies going to keep increasing and is that bad if they do? Please anybody help.

The reason they think it's recent is because they gave you an igm test. Igm antibodies are the first on the scene. Except no std experts advise igm testing for the reasons i gave above. Useless test.

Most cases of genital hsv1 do cause a harsh outbreak. This is due to no other herpes being present in the body. Here's an example. A person has hsv1 orally. Then contracts hsv2 on the genitals. Due to having hsv1 the body is better equipped to deal with the virus. I would wait until at least 8 weeks and get a type specific igg test. Meaning it tests hsv1 and hsv2 separately. The test they gave you was certainly an igm test which should never be given. They are unreliable and false positives are extremely common. Most Dr's are clueless about hsv and testing. Even the CDC is against igm testing in adults.

One last thing the nurse said its from a recent exposure. How do they know it's recent or can they? My father use to have cold sores so i probably have hsv1 could it have picked that up? And thanks so much for what you have already told me. I will definitely take your advice.

Also sorry to add on but I'm almsost 20 days without blisters. Most people say when they have genital hsv1 they usually cause severe outbreaks that you can't really miss. I'm really confused by all this.and I want to say I am extremely thankful for you helping out.

United States. Could this be a false positive then?

Nothing you describe sounds hsv related. The test you got was absolutely worthless. What country are you in?
