Kiss on Cheek

by elyse307, Nov 09, 2009 04:41AM
I was hanging out with a friend who had an active cold sore in the corner of his mouth (It was a pretty good size).  Out of nowhere he leaning over and gave me a wet kiss on my cheek. (I have been tested for both HSV1 and HSV2 and both are negative).  My cheek is healthy...there are no breaks in the skin.  When I got home I washed it very well and then went to sleep.

How great of a chance is it that I acquired the virus with this encounter? Is there a good chance I did not? How long does it take for the symptoms of HSV1 to show?

Thank you for your help!

washing after wards doesn't help prevent infection.

This is low risk for oral herpes.  If you are going to get symptoms they'll occur within the next 1-3 weeks.
