Lab/blood test results; doc says neg IGG for HSV 1&2, pos IGM but "pending;" also, pos Hep A?!

My boyfriend of almost six months and I had a full STD test, including blood work, from an Urgent Care office since neither of us have insurance. Anyway, I got the results and I'm negative on all bacterial STD's and trich, also neg on syph. Positive on Hep A, which puzzles me, and she said I am negative on IgG for HSV 1 and 2, but positive for ImG thus have to wait for further results. His doc said neg on HSV both 1 & 2, though I don't have the paperwork yet (separate doctor).

I've read and reviewed the IgG versus IgM discussions in depth, yet I don't have the piece of mind I thought I would because the practicioners seemed clueless about the issues with IgM thus I question what they said. Here are my results:

HERPES SIMPLEX IGG
        HSV/IGG TYPE 1             0.21  (my result)

                                              (NOTE)
=1.10                                    POSITIVE

HERPES SIMPLEX IGG
        HSV/IGG TYPE 2             0.18  (my result)

                                              (NOTE)
=1.10                                    POSITIVE

HERPES SIMPLEX IGM           PEND

So ... indeed I don't have it? Again - been with the same man for six months; we've had protected sex everytime except once, though our genitals undoubtably have touched. Does this mean the pending IgM has any significance?

Also, I read the Hep A test may result in a false positive as well; I know that may not be for here, but is that true? Thanks.

knew you meant pcr....lol.

correct - if he didn't have active symptoms at the time, a pcr swab was not the proper test for him. he needs a type specific herpes igg blood test done to see what his status is.

totally up to you. if you trust that his original testing was really igg for herpes then no need to pursue this further.

Sorry, that should be PCR, NOT CRP...

Okay, so after me inquiring about the specific results, he stopped at the clinic to pick up the papers instead of calling. The tests came out negative for HSV1 and HSV2. However, the method used is not IgG blood work, but CRP via a q-tip inserted into his penis. I was furious. I informed him that this may not be an accurate test based on what I found on the 'net using my phone and he was pretty upset and replied, "you know what? These are the results. I'm not doing it again and I don't even want to talk about it." I don't know how to feel: I'm fuming at the doctors; I'm frustrated with him since had he bothered to keep the original doc's phone number handy or even remember what was said specifically then we likely wouldn't have this issue; I'm bemused and annoyed that he's upset with me since I emphasized time and again that IgG blood test is best, yet I suspect we're back at square one. On the other hand, perhaps I'm putting undue weight on what isn't happening: he's never had an outbreak, his ex hasn't, I'm negative, this test didn't detect anything. So I keep thinking perhaps I should accept it and move on.

So how accurate are those tests? Is what has been done sufficient?

Hi, Grace,

I do not know what happened with that post! I had typed up how it determined whether it was neg or positive but only part of it showed up. It appeared to indicate I am indeed well in the negative range for each, but I wanted to have somebody who specifically knows about answer! At any rate, disregard everything but my results in response to the IgG test result. So that means the doc is correct? The IgG came back negative for sure then based on those numbers? So I don't currently have it?

The doc told him he didn't have it. He asked, "are you SURE?" and she replied, "yes." I haven't seen the paperwork yet, but since all these numbers, warnings, and things to disregard are thrown about, I'm going to just to make sure.

As for Hep A vacc, I don't know. I know I recently got something for free in 2008 because we couldn't afford it when I was little. I think ti was some Hep vacc, but not sure which one. I don't even know how to react to that pos lab result.

But the IgG is indeed negative?

did you have your hep A vaccinations?

we already discussed in your previous thread about the igm testing for herpes being a waste of time and money.  disregard your herpes igm results when you get them regardless of what they say.

so your partner finally got igg testing for herpes done and was negative?
