Laboratory error with swab test?

Hello everyone,

So about two years ago (July/August 2010) I got a small sore on the inside of my labia. I saw a ob-gyn who swabbed it, she later called back and mailed a printout saying that I have HSV 2. The only problem is that at this time, I never had ANY sexual contact (touching/sex/etc you get the gist). I mean, literally zero. So I'm super confused as to how I could've possibly gotten it as I don't recall having ever gotten a cold sore (I've gotten many canker sores, but no cold sores- cold sores are on the outside of your lip?)

Is it possible that they mixed my swab with someone else's? How often does this happen?

if you had never even been naked and fooling around with someone let alone any other sexual contact, you wouldn't have gotten hsv2 genitally.  depending on the testing that was done, it could've been a false positive or lab error so well worth ruling out.  well worth discussing in more detail with your gyn to get to the bottom of it all!!

So you think I might actually not have it? That's the plan, to get a blood test. If by some chance it comes back negative I should just go with that? I know some people get blood tests a number of times because sometimes the results can be a bit confusing/off.

certainly ruling out a false positive or lab error is a good idea based on your situation.  why not seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test?

Oh and just to add, I never had any other outbreaks or even mild discomfort after this one, even though I've been under considerable stress the past few years (in college, so a lot of late nights with little sleep, etc, you get the point.)

I did have a yeast infection at one point but cleared that up with the appropriate medicine for yeast.
