Link between oral and genital outbreaks?

About a year ago my 4 yr old daughter was exposed to herpes from a relative who was having an outbreak.  We had her tested but were told by some on this forum that the test would not be accurate on a toddler.  We are certain that she has oral herpes based on the repeated red spots on her lips. Sadly, she has had 8-12 minor outbreaks in the last 11 months.

My question is this: On about three occasions when she has had a minor outbreak, she had complained about pain in her genital area.  The first time, the doctor said she had a UTI after taking a urine sample.  Currently, she is about  4 days into a minor oral outbreak (redspot).  Tonight she said the her genital area hurt.  We looked and it is a little red but nothing else.

Our fear is that the relative may have passed it to my daughter when she was changing a diaper.  Is there any relationship between getting an oral outbreak and getting a genital outbreak iat the same time f a person is infected in both areas?

recurrences every 2-3 weeks is very unusual and a further work up is in order. A pediatric dermatologist would be helpful if your regular doctor isn't able to figure it out.

My concern was that I saw the relative touch her lip (face) a couple of days after I returned home from a trip.  I wondered if she may have done that and then changed a diaper and passed it along.  That is why I was womndering if there is any relationship to oral syptoms and genital syspmtoms being triggered at the same time.

Unfortunately, my kids have had some oral syptoms every 2-3 weeks for the last year.  it is tough to take but fortunately, they have been very minor so far.

Also, is it possible to have multiple outbreaks in the first year and then a few years later not have them for a long time or at all?

You can have these lip symptoms swabbed rather painlessly for herpes the next time she has them.  That would be a lot of ob's for someone her age with oral herpes.  Sounds like perhaps there's something else going on - both orally and genitally.

If the relative has genital herpes, there is no way for your daughter to get it genitally from that person unless she was molested by this person.

I'd also wonder if the sores are something other than herpes, and maybe she has yeast or something.  She can also easily have that genitally.
