Location of viral shedding

Is HSV-2 viral shedding most likely to occur only in the area of the primary infection, or can it occur anywhere that the sacral ganglia innervates?  For example, if a person has a primary infection in the inguinal area and 3-4 recurrences/year in the exact same area and nowhere else, can that person be shedding asymptomatically from other areas or only from that area when they're outbreak-free?

Shedding occurs from the area of active lesions as well as from the entire anogenital area and periodically in between.
